Windows 7 Time to burn the house down

I'm having issues with a newer laptop and not sure if I should do a full format and clean install. Here are my two issues.

1) When backspacing in Windows Live Mail the mouse cursor will move at random and delete text in random through out the entire email body including the text from the incoming email that I am responding too. I have to use allot of care and watch each time I hit backspace.

By the way I dislike Widows Live and would like to install Outlook Express or similar if that is possible as I am more familiar with it.

2) I was visiting satellite angle websites to get the angle and skew for my new Dishnetwork Hi def upgrade but each site would tell me that I am beyond the fringe area stating that I am too far away or too far north and west. (I even tried using zipcodes from Iowa and other states and I got the same errors).

But with my old Vista machine that's 6 years old provided all the information I needed for my correct location with the same satellite websites (virus?)

For now I use the old Vista PC. Another thing the laptop wouldn't let me book an airline ticket either, but I had no problems with using the old vista PC.

Should I try to burn the house down, if so how, or should this be left up to the computer guru, but he is away overseas.

Just get another email address.Aol and gmail are free as well as others.

Windows Live is hit and miss. Some love it others hate it. Outlook Express is not available as a download for Vista or Win7. I'd recommend looking into alternatives, try Mozilla Thunderbird.

My experience with Windows Vista was painful, as is the case with most other people. What are you looking for on the satellite sites? I've used DishPointer.com with an iPad to help a friend upgrade his receiver.

Make sure you've installed all necessary updates, including Java, Flashplayer, and MS updates.

The issue with your keyboard might be a firmware issue. Reformat if nothing else works out. What brand/model laptop are you using?

Its a Sony I 7 intel 500 gig HD nvidia G force. 8 gig ram.

Dishpointer.com worked well on my old vista machine for me today, but the laptop somehow cannot communicate with that site nor the other satellite pointing sites. I also could not prompt the laptop through the steps for booking airplane tickets, yet the old Vista machine had no trouble. Both machines are up to date with the various updates.

The one big difference between the two are antivirus. I use free avast on the old vista, and a paid version of Trend on the laptop.

I upgraded to win7 on my last computer build. I think I'd recommend a Mac to someone who hasn't been through the Microsoft wars already. In fairness win7 is working better than I expected. I haven't seen any of the problems the OP mentioned. I'm using the free Microsoft antivirus program. I'm using Eudora 7.1.0.9 for email, which is available free these days. Even runs on win7 64bit.

I use Trend on mostly on business computers that I've repaired and otherwise work on. Otherwise Microsoft Security Essentials might do the trick. The behaviors you are describing make me think there might be something wrong with the keypad itself or in your System32 folder, maybe a combination of both.

Have you had any problems with spyware, pups, or any whacked out emails? Run any "Registry Repair" peograms recently? Do you have a software firewall installed?

Another vote for Microsoft Security Essentials.

If you don't like the web format for Windows live mail then download thunderbird.

The two main issues almost sound like an issue with your web browser, not windows itself. I would try a new web browser. If you are using IE try opening it up in Firefox or Chrome. If you are using Firefox or chrome trying going to the web page in IE. Also make sure that you are running the latest versions of each. There are a lot of differences that web developers have to account for with the different browsers, it is possible that the web site you are trying to get to didn't test it fully.

Avira free antivirus and Malwarebytes are the best free. Microsoft Security Essentials is rubbish
The free version of Malwarebytes won't guard your PC but will do a full Sys scan

Another option to fix this prob is download a trial of Eset Nod32 update and do a full system scan

I'm an IT tech so work with these things a lot

For Brower security install McaFee SiteAdvisor (free). Works on IE, Mozilla and Chrome

They say PC are like Air Conditioners. When you open Windows they don't work properly :D

You need to get into the touch pad settings and disable the touch pad while typing. This is not a virus or spyware issue. It's a touch pad sensitivity issue.

Windows 7 and Vista are easy to use. Just spend some time googling issues and you'll learn things in no time.

Does the backspacing issue only occur in that one email app, or whenever your typing anywhere?
A Gmail account is what most people like these days, we can even help setup forwarding mail coming to your old address.
Also do yourself a favor and switch to firefox, and again update flash java ect as revdevil said.
We can remotely connect to your machine to see whats going on if needed, im also a computer tech :- ).

Teamviewer works good for remote, just need internet.
Sorry didn't read the thread properly and thought he was having virus issues and needed an AV

I ended up doing a full format, and starting fresh. I think I might have picked up something while using the airport wifi. For some reason I had problems getting the antivirus to download (was running AVG back then). Since then the machine didn't run quite right with the strange annoyances I described earlier in the thread. When I installed Trend last month it couldn't find anything, by then whatever it was couldn't be detected. After going through this, I am not sure if I want to use public internet in places like airports.

Just get Mac, once I finally got one I cursed everyday I put up with those POS PC's. Never understood why people still get Windows based stuff, why not get something that works, IMO, and I am by no means a tech guy trust me,

I hear that a lot with clients, "should I get a Mac? I am so computer illiterate". Not sure if that is the answer or not, but we do live in a PC world, can't customize a Mac without voiding the warranty, PCs offer more versatility in gaming and most other programs, and they are cheaper. Not everyone can afford a $900+ system.

Never had a virus yet and I do look at a bunch of porn to;) Customize what? The background? Programs? Some examples please.

Different case, upgrade the video card, add a 2 nd NIC, add a sound card, etc.
The reason Macs don't "get" viruses, is because no one really tagets Macs. They indeed are susceptible to virus and other attacks.

Whatever, beyond my pay grade I guess. Just seems pay a little more get a little better IMHO.

It's a common misconception that porn sites are full of viruses. Most just want you to pay. Destructive Viruses aren't as common as they used to be. Cyber crime and identity theft are what's big. Stealing personal info and credit card info are the norm. A mac will not protect from that.

At one time I considered going with a mac, but Macs are not immune to malware, and as the technology evolves Mac has become a bigger target for malware with more people using Macs. Having to learn to use Mac's user interface is another long learning curve, not something I want to do since I am still learning my way around Windows. This Laptop is working much better now, whatever it was is gone since doing the full format. Formatting isn't something I want to do, but as a last resort it did the job.
