Wonder why it would have chipped? I have other hawks from Steve and I am interested in this jack hawk, I just don't know enough to know if that nick could grow somehow. What do you think?

No idea why it happened and I'm probably not smart enough to fathom a decent hypothesis.
I know that Steve makes great hawks so I wouldn't be worried about it any further if I were going to use it but I don't because I stick to my Jenny Wren for my field use. I have a bad shoulder and the JW is much lighter to carry and easier for me to swing- otherwise I'd be using this poll hawk that I'm selling.
 
Missed it by thhaaat much!! Good snag, unclepauly. I will take seconds on it, would make a nice pairing for my other one of Steve jacks.
