Winkler Knives 2 F1 flipper G10

I put good money on it because I am betting with the way Mr. Winkler is that he will fix any real problems that might come up. Again all this can be prevented with oil or other corrosion resistant lubes. But I also think Hoppes should make an aftershave. I like maintaining my gear almost as much as using it.

how Is the detent? That's my primary concern before I purchase one

my mistake just saw you haven't received it yet. please let us know about the detent once you have it :)

OK so the good and the bad. The G10 had pretty rough edges especially where there were high points so much so I gave it a quick sand (2 3 minuets ) on the edges with 320 grit. The detente is very weak so the flipper is a bit of a joke. The action is very smooth and you can open it one handed without a thumb stud or the flipper. The clip was so tight I had to take it off and tweak it a bit. It is also a strange fit so it rides a little different in the pocket. If you have a large hand the handle will be to small. I wear a medium glove and it fits me just enough but any bigger hands and it will not be comfortable. The blade is centered perfect and took a great edge ( I sharpen all my knives when I get them) and is a very useful shape it will be a great skinner . It reminds me of an unrefined Emerson in fit and finish but the Emerson would be more comfortable for all hand sizes. I really wanted to love this knife. I have to say It was disappointing I have several Winkler 2 fixed blades and they are the best feeling knives I have ever owned they always feel well thought out. They are great work horses and are very comfortable during long use. This feels more Like a prototype the sanding did make a huge difference and I just open it with my thumb. The overall design is promising like a small belt knife and it will be great in fine tasks, EDC chores, or cleaning big and small game. I think this is a great start but it needs some work and refinement. I will use it this week while hunting and will report back. I hate to post this as I don't want to bash Winkler I am a big fan. I have a knife right now I am trying to trade or sell to get a bontoc. And I think I want one of his punch knives as well. But the truth is the truth and since this knife is new I think it helps to put out accurate information. Mine could have been a one off as well. There was a tube of lube with it and a certificate that it was inspected twice by the factory.

Not making excuses but this is our first folding knife and to be honest the only thing that is even similar to this and our fixed blade knives is both are classified as a knife in the dictionary. I designed this first knife to fit what I wanted in a folder. The size fits my average hand very well and provides a secure grip due to the handle shape and the texturing on the G10 handle. (The Carbon fiber has a smoother finish as I didn't like the look of the CF when blasted.) The flipper action again works well for what I like in a folding knife action. One hand opening and closing is important to me. The clip is positioned for right hand carry. I wear it inside my right front pocket all the way back to where the pocket seam ties into the pant leg. My thumb and fore finger naturally hits the right place to remove the knife from my pocket. We hand bend the clips so how tight or loose will vary. I figure most folks can adjust the tension as they want. My goal was to make an everyday carry folding knife that would perform to high standards. I carried one of the original prototypes every day for about 3 months. I made a change to the blade shape but everything else worked just as I hoped. As soon as our first knives went through final assembly I switched to a G-10 Model F-1 and carried it for several weeks while we worked on our manufacturing processes. It did better than the original with the new blade shape. Now I am carrying a carbon Fiber model F-1B. Even with the smoother handle I have had no issues with the grip quality. All 3 knives have served me well. My goal is they will work well for others that choose to carry our folders. The Folding Knife Models are the same as our fixed blades and axes, if someone has a problem let me know and I'll do whatever I can to make it right.
There are a lot of great folding knives out there made by a lot of fine makers. I try to learn whatever I can form these folks and make the best knives I can. I fully expect to make improvements to each aspect and detail of our knives as we continue with this new direction. I am very pleased with our first efforts and stand behind each one completely. Are they perfect, I doubt it as I doubt I have ever made a perfect knife, but I am betting they will work as intended.

I had and have no doubt you would stand behind them that's why I bought it and your fixed blades. I am giving it a chance and using it as my edc and taking it on a hunt tomorrow with me along with your field knife. After sanding the edges it is much more comfortable that alone made a big difference. But I cant get it to flip with just my finger I have to flick it as I open it or I just open it with my thumb on the blade. My detente is light enough I can lightly shake it open so I just tightened the pivot which fixed that issue. Before you say tightening the pivot is why I cant flip it I could not flip it when I received it unless I flicked it. But the ball bearings in side are so smooth it still works one handed with my thumb or a flick. I am a big fan of your knives and axes I have taken them on every outdoor trip in the last few years and I cant stop buying more of them. I recommend them to anyone and everyone. This is my honest opinion with no malice intended just the opposite was my initial intention. I think you can see I was very excited to get it. I did not even stop to think when I saw it on Blade Gallery I bought it as fast as I could type. I even paid for overnight shipping ($48.00) to get it before I went hunting. I am used to the clip being in the corner of my pocket and straight clips so it is a little different to me. It does feel better in my back right pocket as the clip grips the corner of the pocket which is where It is right now as I type. In all fairness I am used to my edc being MS Bailey Bradshaw stag lock back, Sebenza,Umnumzaan, ZT, Emerson so those are big shoes to fill first time out. And after sanding and adjusting its as good as any Emerson. My favorite part is finally some one makes a modern folder with a carbon steel blade.

I just received the F-1 B (Caswell finish, carbon fiber scales, titanium liners, titanium clip) from Daniel (on a pre-order) and it is nothing short of outstanding. I think he really outdid himself on this one. Really light, feels great in the hand and this blade is seriously sharp! Hit the flipper and with a little wrist flick, it opens silently. Took a little getting used to since I am used to my ZT350 springing open but this is a different knife and now I like the ball bearing thing. BTW.. the CPM3V blade is not stainless. It is expensive, yes, but I love Winkler Knives and this was a great investment. It will not sit around to be looked at. It will be my EDC. I'd post a pic, but I have no idea how to insert an image from URL. Any help would be appreciated.
