My new Winkler Knives combat axe just arrived in the mail today; I order this one to use as more of a breaching axe as well as a weapon. The hawks are just incredibly well made, just like all of my Winkler made axes.

The hawk head is just the perfect size for my needs, and the spike on it is just perfect. Enjoy the pictures.

Mr. Winkler makes some pretty amazing tools! That is nothing short of awesome!!

Nice new piece my friend. I love Dan Winklers stuff and Karens sheaths are killer.
Stay safe Ed.

Best regards

Robin

I'm starting to lust after one of those. Does that one have a tapered tang?

yes it does, all of his Winkler Knives II axes have it.Integral glass breaker extends beyond end of handle. Overall length is 14" 1.5 lb weight:thumbup:

Nice addition to your collection....And a very nice collection it is !

Can we get some side by side photos with specs. next to the hawks? Curios the differences besides the straight handle.

I absolutely love his axes. I just wish they weren't so damn expensive (although I'm more than sure they're worth every penny). If I had expendable income, I'd definitely buy one. Unfortunately, I don't. I'd like to see him do a collaboration with a company like KaBar or Ontario. You know, a company that won't charge the same price as a custom (ahem...Benchmade).

I like this version much better than the Sayoc w/o (edge-) spike. Actually I like this better than both of the Sayoc ones, because the one w/o spike is IMO dangerous for the user and the one with spike is only good for use against ppl.

This new one, however, seems to be useful for a variety of tasks. I also like the straighter handle. The only thing I can think of that I probably won't like is the weight. If the design is similar to the Sayoc hawks, then this is too heavy for its size, IMO.

This is a cool axe but once you hold a Sayoc or any RD you know you've got a true fighting hawk. This combat axe is more along the lines of a RMJ SHRIKE but faster and lighter. I'm torn between a SHRIKE and a Combat Axe. I will most likely buy the Winkler there the best of the best n ot that the SHRIKE is bad but the SHRIKE is too long for me.

The Sayoc IMHO eliminates the need for a knife for me, well i do love my Spydercos though.

Edwood,

I've been drooling over Winkler's axe since your whoring of pics!
And now you are putting this one up and this is making my spending plan a little too tough.

Speaking of which, is this available in S7 steel?
And what's the difference between having S7 and damascus? It has to be as tough, right?

One hella good looking axe!

My WK II Combat Axe is made from 3/8" thick 5160. It has a skeletonized full tapered tang just like the Sayoc models. The weight is about 1.5 lbs with the Maple handle and a bit more with Micarta or rubber. The length is 14". I also like the straighter handle; it makes the spike end more effective for breaching type operations. This axe is also a good bit less expensive than the Sayoc Hawks. Same quality, just less production time and no royalties.
