***ADDENDUM - More relaxed rules
***
Hi folks,
I thought it was high time we celebrated Wooden Wednesday with a competition, and with that in mind I have held back showing off a recent knife I was sent by A.Wrights & Sons of Sheffield.
I had purchased an 'Ettrick' pattern knife a short while ago (what would you guys call this Stateside? A swaybacked wharncliffe?). This was to be a work knife, the slender handle and wharncliffe blade ideal for some of the more intricate work I do, fusing up some of the displays and demos.
There were however several flaws that prompted me to return the knife, together with a letter expalining my reasoning. Duly the director of A.Wrights & Sons replied to me with his apologies and assurances that my constructive criticisms had been passed on. I was fully refunded for the knife and a thought nothing more of it.
However a couple of weeks ago I recieved another Ettrick together with another wee note. This was a gift to me, in order to 'restore my faith in Sheffield made knives'. The note also read "Designed & built for pracital use, assembled and finished by hand!".
The knife is a traditional Ettrick pattern as stated; carbon steel blade, Rosewood scales and brass bolster, liners and pins.
Maybe some of my points had been actioned, maybe they just cherry-picked a better knife, either way this was a higher quality knife to the one I had originally ordered.
However, the very same day I receieved this knife I was surprised with gifts from both Uncle Andi and puukkoman. Andi's Otter-herding had rustled up a fine Weber-messer which is perfect for my work needs. It seemed greedy to hang on to this as well, so here we are.
I'll share some photos now....but be sure to scroll down to find the rules on how to win this interesting patterned knife, and have a Sheffield made knife in your pocket.
RULES:
In order to have a chance at winning this knife, please post a link any three of your 2013 Janurary, February or March unique enteries into the 'Wooden Wednesday' thread* (http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showthread.php/1011781-Wooden-Wednesday/page11)
*Excellent 'how to' instructions below courtesy of pertinux
This is not a photography competition, I wanna see nice and/or interesting knives.
I'll announce the winner next Wednesday.
Good luck and I'll look forward to revisiting some of your posts.
Thanks!
