See post 156 to see who the winner is.

Okay all, I've decided I need to do a giveaway, so here we are

Prize:

That's right its the ebony covered GEC 72 lockback that I received from our very own cbwoods, I love this knife, but I have few to offer, and i think this might be better used elsewhere, as it deserves

I recently put a new lanyard on it, which I think you'll like, but I'll update pictures later.

I hope Mr. Woods doesn't take offence, I sincerely enjoy this knife!

What do you have to do?:

Post here in this thread, all welcome, winner chosen by random number generator, however I'd appreciate it if you could post a favorite quote/thought/point/wisdom from a book, movie, tv shows, grandp' or grandma' whatever you go...oh and post as many times as you like

Also:
-You must be legally allowed to buy and own what you buy
-I will send USPS priority
-Giveaway ends June 7th (because it's a day for celebration damn it :) two points for Gryffindor if you guess why :p)

I'll start :)

I've always enjoyed this play and movie, if you haven't watched or read it, YOU NEED TO:

Not an entry but I love sharing quotes this one was mine...

I Saw a (man?) he was sittin’ on a rock at the waters edge. He seemed to be drawin’ obscure designs in the mud by the murky waters edge with a long stick. As little waves lapped at his feet, blurrin’ his designs, I asked him what he was doin’? “Creatin’ the Universe.”, he told me and went back to his work pokin’ in th...e mud with his stick… I swear I felt the earth move… TAE 3-14-10

I'm in, thank you. On the topic of success

To laugh often and much;
To win the respect of intelligent people and the affection of children;
To earn the appreciation of honest critics and endure the betrayal of false friends;
To appreciate beauty, to find the best in others;
To leave the world a bit better, whether by a healthy child, a garden patch or a redeemed social condition;
To know even one life has breathed easier because you have lived.
This is to have succeeded.

I'll contribute a couple. my favorite all time quote is My signature on this forum

Thanks Peter!

One of my favorites from Ben Franklin, a fairly famous one.

"Early to bed and early to rise makes a man healthy, wealthy and wise."

Nice looking knife there Pete, love the Ebony.
I don't care for large lock backs though so this is not an entry,I just wanted to share my favorite lines.
I read them thousands of times growing up in the home of my Great Aunt & Uncle who adopted my brother,sister & myself when we were very young.
I later learned that my Great Uncle quit drinking when they adopted us kids,thus being the reason he had these first lines of the Serenity Prayer on a little plaque in the living room....

God, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change,

The courage to change the things I can,

And wisdom to know the difference.

RIP Fred & Lottie.

Good luck everyone.

Multum in Parvo - a latin phrase translated as "Much in Little". I came across it through Thoreau though I can't identify the exact source and it can certainly be attributed to many others. I have tried to live with this as a guiding principle.

Simplify - Simplify is a quote from Walden and another way to express the Thoreau's prevailing sentiment/philosophy.

As for June 7 - a reason to celebrate My Mom's 87th birthday - and the day I will win this lovely knife. :D

Thanks for the opportunity. Generous and inspiring!

Thanks for the giveaway Pete. I'm in. With that said though, this is a great thread! love the idea.

I like that Douglas Adams quote. that's pretty funny.

I've been told this one was good, so i will add it here...
"Seek love. Seek peace. Seek joy. Seek kindness. There, you will find many blessings." -tpvt

post hoc ergo propter hoc - (roughly "after therefore because")

cum hoc, ergo propter hoc - (roughly "with therefore because of")

it's the only Latin I know...other then veni vidi vici (roughly "Julius Ceaser was an ass") ;)

perhaps this is why I've never read any Thoreau, or Walden, and a good reason to start, thanks RayseM

Awesome I should have made this an ancient author faceoff thread, reminded me of some more Latin I do know :eek:

"Dulce et decorum est pro patria mori" Horace if memory serves, used well by Wilfred Owen (roughly "what a sweet and fitting thing it is to die for your country")

"If you make your bed every morning you will have accomplished the first task of the day. It will give you a small sense of pride and it will encourage you to do another task and another and another. By the end of the day, that one task completed will have turned into many tasks completed. Making your bed will also reinforce the fact that little things in life matter."
