Good Afternoon All ( check local time zone)
I noticed today that my gold membership expired and that made me think about how much I enjoyed the features and supporting the forum. So I purchased another year for myself and would like to pay it forward to a new(er) member that hasn’t yet taken the step so...

Here’s the rules
Been a registered member here less then 18 months or less with at least 20 posts on the porch and never had a membership upgrade.

To enter tell us about the first ( that you remember) traditional knife you owned and how it came to be yours ( bonus points if you can show us a picture of said knife)

I’ll let this run a couple weeks so everyone gets a chance and we get more cool knife stories.

I’ll pick the winner by random number generator by post #

Good luck and welcome aboard.

Generous offer ... this isn't an entry I just wanted to say I find myself on this subforum more and more lately.

Lots of good folks and seems just as many with good hearts that just enjoy sharing their love of these silly pointy sharp things we've all enjoyed most of our lives.

Welcome to the porch! Probably the friendliest place on the interwebs!

Very generous!! Hope someone enjoys it!!
Not an entry (obviously!)!

Ok I’ll give this one more bump hoping for some interest from the newer members but if that doesn’t work maybe I’ll just pick a new member, or perhaps some of the long timers would have a new member you’d like to recommend?

I am probably as disappointed as the OP with the lack of entries the stories are half the fun. I am not sure I can really recall specifically when or what would have been my first traditional. I can better recall all the abuse I put my pocket knives through as a child. I would poke at stuff in fires and pry things with my knife when I was a kid. I would harshly stab it into and object reasonably stabable (its a word I promise :p). I know that none of the knives I had growing up were anything modern they were all SAKs or something more traditional and non-locking or a simple classic lockback design. I think only non SAK of note, because who can forget a SAK, would be IIRC a Case Small Toothpick I know that I abused it just the same as any others and eventually lost it. I am fairly certain that I had found the knife in the first place so I never valued it too much. I would definitely view most any knife differently today but as a child I just viewed it as a tool to use and abuse because I didn't know the meaning of value.

Fantastic we have an entry and a great story I bet we can all relate to. Thank you for sharing and welcome to the porch.

I’m a new forum member, but I probably don’t have 20 posts. I lurked on here for a year or so and enjoyed all the info and was blown away by the kindness, maturity, and generosity on here. There aren’t many places on the web that have this much civilized discussion. So I set up an account not too long ago and have finally started posting occasionally. Baby steps.

Anyway my first knife was a SAK that I got when I started in scouts, probably around 10 years old, which I still have 30 years later. Around he same time I got a buck lockback with black plastic handles that I still have also. Both knives cleaned a lot of trout when I was a kid. Now I generally carry a case (stocker/trapper) or a GEC (hayn helper/beer scout) for work and smaller knives like swayback jack or GEC 25 when I’m not working.

So, I guess this is an entry if I qualify, if not, just sharing some info. Either way, it’s good to be part of this subforum.

I pop in here and there I didn't look at traditional knives for a long time as I got into knives more so with modern folders and traditional weren't as exciting at the time. Its just a matter of learning and appreciating all about knives that opened them back up for my interest. I still wish I saw or could find more variety of steel in traditional knives as to me there is no reason they can't utilize modern steels more frequently. I don't mean this as any knock against classic SAK Inox or Case Tru-Sharp and the likes just that it makes the hunt more fun.

Sacto Sacto he said it would run for a little while and you are 4 posts short so get to talking and you can meet the criteria.

16 post is close enough for me! Thanks for sharing your story and back ground. Welcome to the porch!

Thank you for entering! You are not the first to lust after a traditional pattern in “ modern” steel. They are available from several custom makers so the hunt shall always continue. ( check out the Case / Bose collabs)

Welcome aboard.

Clay not an entry as I've been around here for a while and already a Gold Member but just wanted to say this is very kind and generous of you my friend.:thumbsup:
