So it seems there's giveaway fever here in the Traditional forum. I don't have any traditional knives to give out but I do have something related that could be quite useful - some sheaths in which to put your knives.

Specifically, I have a small AG Russell leather pouch and a large Gerber Multi Function sheath of ballistic nylon.

The Russell pouch is nice, soft leather and fits slimmer knives up to about 3.5" closed. I have shown it below holding a Victorinox Cadet (not included ;)), which is 3.25" closed and 7/16" thick according to my calipers. It fits quite nicely in the pouch, so there's your size gauge. I used it to carry some small folders now and again, but very seldom. It just sits around now so it could use a good home.

The Gerber pouch is new in the package. Black nylon with velcro closure. They say it will fit items that are 4.5 to 5.5" closed. I think 5.5" might be pushing it if you want enough velcro left to hold the flap, but anything up to 5" long should be good. So if you've got a larger traditional folder or a multitool and need a rugged pouch for it this could fit the bill. There is a belt loop on the back. It will fit belts up to 2" if they are thin webbing, like a BDU belt. For leather belts, I think 1.75" is the most it would take, perhaps only 1.5" if it were fairly thick.

So, what do you need to do to enter? Nothing too hard. :)

> First, you must be a registered forum member with at least one post in this subforum before the time this thread was started.

> Second, think back to when you were a kid. Up to the age of, say, 15. Of all the gifts you got at Christmas what was the single most memorable one, and why? Myabe it was the one you bugged your parents for every day since you heard about it. Maybe it was the one you kept for years and years and gave you endless hours of fun. Maybe it had some sentimental significance. Whatever the case, post the answer to that question here and the post number of your reply will be your entry number in the giveaway.

> One entry per person please. The thread will be open for entries until 6:00 PM Eastern on Monday 12/20/10. At that time I will use a random.org to pick from all the valid entries and determine a winner.

Okay, that's all the fine print out of the way. So open up the memory vault and let's hear about that one thing that was your most memorable present. Have fun!

I don't have one x-mas that stands out really. I grew up in a very low income household but my mom always made sure we had what we needed and tryed to always get what we wanted for x-mas. MŸ father was sick and couldn't work so my mom worked 2-3 jobs at all times plus cared for my father, sister, and me. She is one wonderful lady and she always made my x-mas bright. Nice giveaway and thanks for the chance.

great giveaway! I think my favorite present I ever got was my first swiss army knife from my Mom and Dad, was just like my Grandfathers, still have it now :)

I was more of a computer nerd 18 years ago.....I remember unwrapping a NEW 90 Mhz PC Tower.......SWEEEET
Blew my dad's pc out of the water........FAST......loaded with 2 meg of RAM......That was the sheit back then....
My dad always did present me with the tools to succeed, Great Memories.

Thanks for the Giveaway, I was just looking at one of these for a Green Alox Cadet I will be giving to my FIL.

My favorite present of all time was my Remington Model 870 Wingmaster Magnum 12ga that my new wife gave to me Christmas of 1982, the year we got married. I still have it, and will never sell it. I've used it many times for small game, and turkey's. But, it still looks almost new.

Thanks for the opportunity.

I have gotten a lot of great Christmas gifts over the years, but one that stands out is a small video game. This was back in the early 80's, and it was a small video game system, that played just one game. For me, it was the XBox 360 of it's day. The reason it stands out is because, my mother is an OB nurse. It was her turn to work at the hospital on Christmas Eve, and she hadn't gotten home yet. I dearly wanted to play with this toy, but my father told me to not open anything else until she got home. Well, he actually re wrapped this toy, so she could see my sister and I open all of our presents. We were practically coming unglued with excitement, when she rolled in the door, barely awake, but excited to spend Christmas with her husband and children. By this time, even the dogs were excited, probably goaded into fits of incredible joy by my the way my sister and I were acting. Anyway, I just remember being very anxious for my mother to get home. Looking back on this, and other years, I see what they went through to make the holidays so enjoyable for my siblings and myself.

The other Christmases that are my favorites, are the Christmases when my parents brought home a puppy for us. St Nicholas, a yellow lab/German shepherd mix. Gus, a golden retriever. Beau, Remington and Dock, all yellow labs. All good pups.

My most memorable present is pretty easy. I collect nineteenth century American cavalry sabers. I have twenty. When I was eighteen, at Christmas my parents gave me probably the jewel of my collection. It is a Model 1832 Ames Dragoon Saber. It was made in 1837 by N.P. Ames of Springfield, Massachusetts. It was purchased by the US government and issued to one of the two dragoon regiments at the time. The dragoons were the precursors to the US cavalry. Ames Dragoon sabers are relatively rare. Mine is in immaculate condition....all things considered. These swords were used in the Seminole Wars, Mexican-American War, Civil War, and Plains Indian Wars. It is something I have cherished ever since.

Interestingly, that was the same year that I gave one of my favorite gifts. My dad and I shoot Civil War era weapons in live five competition (members of the NSSA is anyone is in the know). At that time the NSSA was starting to allow breech-loading carbine competition and he desperately wanted a reproduction Henry carbine. The Henry carbine was the precursor to the Winchester so commonly seen in Westerns. Well, while I was in my freshman year of college, I worked with my mom and a friend of my dad (who had an FFL) and we managed to lay our hands on an Uberti made reproduction of the Henry carbine. This was one of the early Uberti repos. It took a lot to get and a dinner party to even get in the house. I remember that after exams I drove home, wrapped it and put it under the tree about seven days before Christmas, taunting my dad. I will never forget the look on his face when he opened it. He's given me a lot, I enjoyed giving a little back to him.

Anyway, thanks for letting me share.

Thanks for the opportunity.

My most memorable present was the 16 ga. Remington Sporstman 58 shotgun my parents gave me at Christmas when I was 15. I still have it and will never sell it. It works just as good as ever.

I had been quail hunting with my dad for 2 years at this time and this replaced the Mossberg .410 bolt action shotgun that was a truck gun for my gandpa.

Thanks for the giveaway, Nate!

This is an easy one - my Daisy BB gun when I was 7 or 8 years old. There was a blizzard going on that Christmas Day but that didn't stop me from going outside and getting in some "target practice" on an old tin can set on top of a bushel basket. I had to weight down the can with some gravel to keep if from blowing off, and I got my first lesson in compensating for the wind. ;)

Got a Civil War set from my grandparents. Blue and gray soldiers, cannons, horses - awesome.

When I was 6 years old, we had an unfinished basement. My dad made me a basketball court with two goals. About five foot high. The walls were in bounds.

Timely question and thanks for the contest. Let someone else take the prize that would get better use than me though.

Thanks for the kind holiday gesture!

When I was 10 my neighbor had all kinds of HO cars and we played with them for hours racing, changing parts, crashing them, etc.. I wanted my own set so bad! On Christmas morning in 1971 I was led to the basement where my Dad had set up the coolest track on our ping pong table with about 4 great cars ready to go. I'm not sure if I left the basement all day!

I think I was 8 years old whenever my grandparents passed away. Every Christmas we would go to their house for Christmas lunch. That year we where not doing well financially so Christmas gifts where a little slim and without my Dad's parents, Christmas day was going to just be my sisters and I at home with our parents. I remember getting up and seeing the stuff we got from Santa (mostly clothes that year) but there was some reason for us to go outside, maybe it had started snowing, or one of us got something we wanted to take outside to play with... we ended up stepping out onto the front porch and saw three gifts wrapped for us three kids. I still remember that I got a cool nerf football. My parents swore they did not have any idea who dropped those gifts off for us, and to this day we still do not know.

Thank you for your Christmas giveaway. It's the little gifts we got as kids that still bring a smile to our faces and remind us why we keep traditions going for the next generation.

My favorite Christmas present was a Märklin train set sent from relatives in Germany. It had a "steam" locomotive and lighted passenger cars and cool 3-rail track that looked like it had a gravel railbed. My father ended up stealing it from me.

OK, time to 'fess up. My greatest Christmas present ever was when I received, at the age of 11, the original Rock 'Em Sock 'Em Robots.

Yes, it was 1966, so do the math: I'm an "Old Fart" now! I kept that toy until I was 45, at which time I sold it on eBay for $155.
In all those 35 years I remained unbeaten on that game (I always did have strong wrists!) At least that's how I remember it. ;) :D

Thanks for the chance and the memories, Nate.

Please leave me out of the giveaway, just here to say thank you and to share.

My favorite present was a Lodge 12" cast iron frying pan my wife gave me a couple of years ago. I opened it, got all excited, ignoring all sorts of expensive electronic wondergadgets that she also got me, held it up triumphantly as if it were Excalibur and yelled "WHO WANTS PANCAKES?", and marched off to the kitchen like the Pied Piper with excited kids in tow, totally derailing the entire unwrapping process.

I was 9 and I got Super Nintendo console. I shared it with my older brother's but package had my name on it :D. My mom was single mom as my father had died years earlier. She brought up three son's and with her meager salery she bought us Super Nintendo which wasn't that cheap. It brought so much joy for me and my older brothers.

I remember an Ithica .22 single shot rifle my grandparent got me around age 12. Musta gone through about a million bullets over the years. 32 years later - it's in my closet now.

Thanks for the chance.

Thank you for the opportunity! My favorite gift was a handmade split bamboo flyrod my Dad gave me when I was 12. I still fish with it every year, and I still have both tips!
