Hey everyone. We are giving away two knives to Veterans today. One giveaway is being run on our FaceBook and one here.

Do you know a veteran who would enjoy a Traditional knife?

Tomorrow morning we will draw from the entrants below and send a knife.

Here are the rules: Enter the name of a veteran in your post and if you have a story, that would be great. If you win, I'll get the name and number and send them an Indian River Jack.

Ready? Go!

***The Winner is Fozzie***

Fernando Martinez. Retired Army Senior NCO and combat veteran. Currently battling cancer

Unfortunately I do not know any Vets but that is an awesome knife and an awesome gesture. Happy Memorial Day!

1st Lt. Jeff Morefield, currently on deployment and scheduled to return some this summer. Thanks for the chance to say thanks.

My father, Driscoll Bell is a Marine and former instructor at Marine Corps Recruit Depot Parris Island. After his service in the early 60's, he worked for the American Red Cross, and was stationed at bases across the US, which is how my sisters came to be born in North Dakota and Missouri. He then volunteered for combat zone duty with the ARC and spent 2 years in Viet Nam in service. He would retire from the American Red Cross 35 years later, spending much of his time in disaster relief, directly helping people in the hour of their greatest need.

wow. Thanks to him! People like that are an inspiration.

This is a great offer Derrick. I am glad that I chose you to order a knife from last night.
Keep up the good work.

My grandfather Alton Smith is the man I most think about. He passed away a few years ago, so this post isn't an entry, but I thought it was worth telling. He served in WW2 as an instructor for bombardier pilots. He was scheduled to pilot a B-52 (I believe) bombing in Japan, when he found out a week before schedule that the Allies won the war. He was relieved for several reasons but was always grateful for serving in the war. He's the man who got me interested in traditional pocket knives, as he always had one in his pocket. :) He was a brilliant man, and was one of my heroes.

My father-in-law Joe Beneducci. Just turned 84 years old. He entered the service sometime around 1948 and was shipped over to England. No stories to share but I know he wasn't a fan of flame throwers. The smell made him nauseous. :barf:

My grandpa was in the Navy on a destroyer. I don't really know Navy ranks as I'm ex army but I know he spent most of his time around the Philippines & Japan.

I don´t know if I can enter a GA on such a day... But a close friend of mine was serving in Afghanistan - Oberleutnant Michael H. and now living with his wife and two kids in Munich´s suburbs would like such a nice knife.

If possible - I´m in :)

My neighbour Richard from down the road. A true gentleman. He is always dressed very neatly (collar and tie) even for his short constitutional stroll the 200 Meters to the front of my house and back-He says its when his daughter and granddaughters arrive he has to "evacuate the house" because of the noise level.
He was on patrol as a forward scout in Wewak (New Guinea) during WW2 and a phosphorous grenade which was placed as what we now called a roadside IED blew up next to him and caused terrible burns. He told me he remembers the doctor looking down at him shaking his head and covering him with the sheet as though dead.He woke up in a field hospital days later. Such a gentle and quietly spoken man.
Cheers Derrick.

Was he in Mazar-e Sharif? Is so, do you have any idea when?

Yeah, he must have been forward! Wewak was a large (largest?) Japanese base on PNG. I've been there during search and recovery operations for our war dead.

Please give your neighbor my regards.

my friend Phil L. Even after his service, he got his degree and went back to work for the DoD to make sure the current fighting men and women can have someone working to give them safer armor and whatever such he works on.

My dad Bob. Was in Army Security Agency in Vietnam. No stories as he doesn't talk about it.
