WINNER SELECTED: What's in a Name - Part II

Thanks for the GAW, Old. I'm in.
Scrteened porch is screened porch with a typographical error that I somehow managed to do perfectly twice. (Lemepris, it costs $10 to change your user name.)
Screened porch is a small joke at my own expense based on how wild I really like my wilderness.

Mine is a shortened version of my first and last name.
Thanks for the chance to win that soddie!

Lemmo,Berko(Australian for going berserk so must be points there),Sonno and hmmm let me see.Someone who is so ugly they'd scare a starving dog out of a butchers shop.....Styggo- so ya do have an English(pommy)equivalent. Mustn't forget devvo and screeno.:D

Not an entry

I have recently gotten hooked on traditional pocket knives. Cant say I am a regular poster (yet) so I do not qualify by the rules. That's ok. Just wanted to say this is a great giveaway and is one of the reasons BF is such a great forum. KBA = my initials.

I am an alumnus of Southern Methodist University. SMU's mascot is the Mustangs. At football games, a mustang named Peruna takes the field and runs with his handlers after every SMU score. Peruna is named after an Prohibition-era elixir that was very much in favor on campus back in the day (for obvious reasons). I graduated in 1998. Hence, Peruna1998.

Thanks for the chance! I don't usually enter in these, but I just love that red linen composite and couldn't resist!

So, my username/name I use as my "brand" is actually a shortened and stylized version of my name in the possessive tense. My first initial, E, middle initial, S, and first three letters of y last name, Nic. So when I call one of my knives an esnyx custom it literally means:

E.S.Nic's custom

Kinda sneaky, I know... :D

Not an entry, but I'll still play along.

I first got into computers about 25 years ago and one of the first games I got for it was an F-16 flight sim. I had to pick a handle for the game, so thinking of something quick and deadly, I came up with "black mamba." Never saw any reason to change.

Thanks for your generosity.

Kamagong is a type of wood from the Philippines. It is very dense, hard, and heavy and is also known as ironwood.

My handle was given to me by my cousins. When I graduated from college I spent five weeks in the old country visiting with family. I spent a lot of time at my uncle's house. It was a typical two-story home, though my cousins had appropriated the attic as a social space. The stairs to the attic were very steep. Having been raised here I am quite a bit taller than the average Filipino, and I used to hit my head on the ceiling climbing the stairs. I couldn't tell you how many times I did it, but after the third time one of them commented that my head must be like kamagong as the impact never seemed to faze me.

I never did figure out if they meant I was hard headed or just dense. ;)

Great GAW and thanks for the chance! My user name comes from my first name Mark and my middle initial E. People began calling me Marky Mark from the Mark Wahlberg group Marky Mark and the Funky Bunch. So when I signed on to this forum I just changed the Mark to sharp because I love knives and especially traditional folders. Thanks again.

First things first: this is NOT AN ENTRY, as I just picked up one of these red beauties.

Meako, I'm moving to Queensland at the start of July, thanks for the primer on Aussie slang :)

My username is simply my last name and then my first name. I'm lucky enough to have a rare combo of the two in order to use it pretty frequently without needing any numerals after it  Sometimes if it's taken, I also use "corncob" as I'm from Nebraska and our college mascot is the Cornhuskers. When I moved to Texas, that's what my first group of coworkers called me

Here are some more examples or strayanised names:
milko-milkman
garbo-garbage man
posty-post/mail man
firey-firefighter
seppo- an American -septic tank - yank-seppo
pommy-pom an English person-P.O.M -Prisoner Of his Majesty(from the olden days)
abo- an Indigenous Australian
cane toad-a person from Queensland
cockroach-a person from NSW
houso - a resident of a government housing project
derro- derelict -a tramp or hobo(which has been adopted in common usage)
most other titles eg politicians and such fall into the category of "unpronouncable on this forum due to insulting and derisive nature"
and so on.

Neat idea for a giveaway.

Mine doesn't have a direct English equivalent but is Norwegian for an individual who is so ugly the tide won't come in if they're standing on the shore. Happy to report that I must not be that busted up as I spend a night or two at the beach a week.

Thanks for the opportunity, and look forward to the stories!

That's what I thought! It looked a bit to much like sjøstygg to be a coincidence.

My name is after the SOG Flash knife. It was the first brand knife I bought, and I liked it a lot back then.

Thank you for the chance, I'm in.

That Bullnose is a beaut! I'm in (with thanks and appreciation) if you'll allow it, sir! There was a similar question asked once in the Community Center, and this was my response:

I just wanted a username that didn't require any numbers in it. Stumbled upon "timberweasel" and liked the sound of it--kind of a silly play on "timberwolf." It kind of reminds me of the Pixar saber-tooth squirrel only I horde knives... :D

Yeah, I try not to take m'self too seriously... :p

Good luck to all! :)

Very nice GAW, thank you sir for the opportunity!

My name comes from a British TV show from the 60's that my father introduced me to in the 80's. It struck a chord and I've always held that experience dear. I highly recommend the original show over the AMC re-do from a few years back. The main character from The Prisoner is Number 6, so there you go. My avatar is representative of the same show.

On a lighter note, I have used this name in a few other forums as well and have several times had to explain when either selling or purchasing items that I am not, and have not yet been, incarcerated.

Not an entry for me please. Pretty cool idea for a thread!
When I joined the forum I was still actively skydiving quite regularly. There are different ways one can fly their body in freefall. Belly to earth being the standard. I enjoyed the free flying type of body positions ie: Stand, back to earth, head down, and sit flying(my favorite) whereby you position your body in a strait back chair form and fly feet down using feet and hands for turning and use your back angle for forward drive or backing away from another jumper to maintain relative position with them in freefall. To me flying my body in a sit position offered an natural view of the world in freefall, and one of the most memorable jumps was watching a high speed sunset in freefall, being as exit altitude was above sunset view and ground level was below sunset view at time of exiting the aircraft. Fun stuff...just writing this makes me want to get my gear up to date and get current so I can make a jump or twenty :p

I´m in - thanks for the chance :)

I joined the forum some time ago and my party years were almost over, but I was still going onto parties and have some Wild Times ;) I almost knew my wife, though. They weren´t wild anymore.
Humppa is some kind of finish music. A little similar to the european polka. Me and my friends in my Wild Times used to listen to the finish band Eläkeläiset at the end of many long nights. When I type in my nickname I still remember these days. Long gone but still a great knife though.
So nothing that has anything to do with my name or family.

Ha! What a great idea for thread, a very generous GAW and some really interesting and hilarious reading. It gives a glimpse into the personal side of some of the fine folks that take part in this forum.

Please count me in.

My forum name Nerfin came about due to my other hobby and passion, Dual Sport or "Adventure" motorcycle riding. I am not a biker obsessed with knives, lol, rather an adventurer when it comes to motorcycles. I have owned a few "enduro's" and still have one. They are like the jeep of the motorcycle world and the "Adventure" or "Dual sport" part comes into play when one takes the motorcycle off road, whether it be gravel, mud, fire roads, logging roads....you name it! Like so many members here I live in Canada and there are plenty of opportunities to go exploring within a few hours of where I live. Its a great opportunity to take camping gear, or fishing gear along and enjoy nature.

Back to the name Nerfin. Nerf bars (tubular engine gaurds) are often used to protect the engine and other components on the motorcycle from getting damaged in a fall, which I have done many times while riding off road!! I was installing some Nerf bars on my motorcycle one winter many years ago when a buddy called up and asked what I was doing. Not thinking I replied that I was Nerfin! The name stuck.

Here a few pics (always carry the P'nut with me!).

Very nice GAW! Thank you, sir, for the opportunity!

My name has something to do with one of my favorite fantasy novels.
For a start: I am an IT guy and strive to please the prejudice that brings with it. I am 36, single, I smoke and I read TONS of fantasy and sci-fi books ;)

The novel I am speaking of is "Talion Revenant" by Michael A. Stackpole (German title is "Der Weg des Richters" ~ The way of the judge).
The protagonist is called Nolan ... and later Nolan Talion.
I really liked that guy and his name, but it was already taken in the MMORPGs I played at that time (stereotypical, Online games in addition to fantasy and Sci-fi, I know ;)).
I really liked the name but I had to come up with something different. That is how I "created" Nalon (it was in Dark Age of Camelot if someone wants to know).

I kept to the name for a long time, but here on BF it was already taken, so I went "cool" and "1337" and substituted the "o" with a "0" ;)

And obviously: I'm in ;)

Wow this is a wonderful contest!

My username came from a nickname I got in highschool: Daver. My name is dave, so it isnt a big leap, but the story is funny. Some friends were talking to someone who saw a flyer for some local band called knowdaverbs, but this guy didnt get the name so he asked "who is 'no daver bs'?" Lol. My friends were hysterical and he next week told me the story. From there they started calling me The Daver and eventually it was shortened to Daver. Then when i had to come up wih a username, thedaver8 stuck, with 8 being the day of the month i was born. :)

When I first got a computer and started perusing the various forums therein, i got on an archery forum first thing. They said i needed a handle to register, and since I had just gotten back from a very poor session at the range, Scattershot just came to me. Been using it ever since.

My user name is TLARbb. Some may recognize TLAR as "That Looks About Right" and the "bb" stands for "black belt". This was picked up and tacked on when the company I worked for went all goo-goo eyed over Six Sigma. So thus I consider myself a "That Looks About Right black belt". So count me in.
