The new, smaller TC Barlow is in the oven!
Drawings%201_zpswmroe8nw.jpg

We are calling it the Lick Creek Barlow, giving a tip of the hat to the birthplace of a good friend and contributor here on the Forum.
On some of these knives you will see a new version of the venerable Soup Bone of recent Yore! (I love playing with English:rolleyes:)
We are trying to capture the spirit, if not the actual appearance (very difficult) of the re-use of bone off-cuts practiced on knives like these Case Barlows pictured here many years ago (not so recent Yore!):D.
Waned%20Edge%20Case%201_zpszh5dnnzk.jpg

This use of bone that would ordinarily be tossed into the landfill, to make useful tools at a reasonable price, could be called a step toward Greening the Industry! But I digress.
I need a name for this bone. We are using "Edge Wane Sawcut" which is descriptive, but has little pizzazz!
I don't know if we will ever capture the brilliant stroke of Soupbone*, created by some guy who creeps around here from time to time;), but let's try!
THE RULES:
You must be a regular contributor to Traditionals.
Post only once! Go back and edit, as I will re-read them many times, but please, just one post!
Think up a good name or two for the handles, and post it.
BONUS: If you post a knife with this type of handle with your entry, I will double the prize!
What Prize you say? What else - a new Lick Creek Barlow of your choice!
And yes, 2 knives if you have included a pic of waned handles!!
Have at it!!

Some great names are popping up here, along with some super pictures of the bone in question! Keep them coming!
I am reviewing them as we go along - please help me out by trying not to repeat them - I know it's hard!
Thanks for participating! I'll let this run through the weekend!
Thanks!
Charlie

We have a winner!!
After reading through them several times, and agonizing with various family members and fellow BF denizens, I have decided to go with XBXB's suggestion in post #81, rag bone. I added a second G to give the name some symmetry, and harken to an old-time song (more later*).
So, Ragg Bone it is, (although, it was hard to resist Boney McBoneface!!)!!
Thanks one and all for the Ragg Bone pictures!
Jim, drop me a message or email!

*can you guess the old-time song??

*Thanks to Barry (GunstockJack)!

Oh boy. Thanks for doing this, Charlie. Both for the generous giveaway, and the way you include the community on the Porch in making cutlery history.

I'll suggest:

SlopeBone or
Sloped Bone

Oooh, ooh! One more:

Scrapbone.

Okay Charlie...well, when ya' need to carve W.W. in the pew...on a Sunday...what better knife to use than "[the] ten cent Barlow!" So, its the Lick Creek Barlow with "Ten Cent Bone." Hey, that was off the top...you like 'em a little esoteric, and since its a Barlow, can't really go back to good ol' England for references to days of yore!

Cheers!

AS Conte ("Wolfsschanze")

PS.

A Saw Cut Bone Barlow (circa 1972)

PSS.

Okay...one not so esoteric, but has roots in the spirit of...so, "Brown Cow Bone?" Okay, not referring to dung, but rather the "Brown Cow Ice Cream Soda" which is 1/4 Cup Choc Syrup; 3 Scoops Vanilla Ice Cream; Chilled Root Beer; and large scoop of fresh whipped cream (the kind you make, not from a can) So, in a tall glass, pour in syrup, add 1 scoop IC, poor steady stream of root beer into glass (slowly) until 1/2 full, add remaining two scoops, finish filling to top and then top it with whipped cream. Enjoy!

PSSS. Okay, on a roll...Since this "waned bone" was tossed and put out the back door, with the refuse...and someone had the good sense to see it still had use...then its the "Waynorth Back Porch (Sawcut) Bone ?"

PSSSS. Okay Charlie, last one, promise. Besides its raining...again, so...I must give credit to Stonebeard, Jfowl31 and bflying, sometimes, the obvious escapes us..."Second Hand Stockbone." Hey...this is what editors do.

PSSSSS. So, howsabut' sum Latin.... the Lick Creek Barlow with [Waynorth] Relicta (L. "discarded") Bone...yeah, my J.D. showing. You could throw together Relicta Bovinus [L. discarded bovine ) Bone (too much?).

Awesome GAW Charlie! Thanks for all that you do. My 8 year old son said the color of those handles really look like a cup of hot tea, so our entry is "Tea bone".

The Tea Bone Barlow

"Beef Stock Bone" or "Sawcut Stock Bone"

...which is what I always thought when I saw the "soup bone" name. Reminds me of my mom making beefstock to cook roast with (and anything else) by taking bone from the butcher and boiling it down to get all the marrow flavored goodness out of it. Typically it was shin and leg bones that were going to be discarded by the butcher... apparently cheaper (free) than purchasing ready made broth/stock off the shelf and we were penny pinchers. I didn't know until I was much older that this broth was sold on the shelf... I just always thought everyone made their own!

Interestingly enough, the bone would get dyed the color of the stock when it was all said and done, so even the colors resemble the final product here.

This is a picture of the look I think is trying to be accomplished on this case

And I love the color on this I*XL

Pitch Bone or Pitched Bone - since it was going to be "pitched" to the scrap pile at one point and because of the "pitch" created by the angles after sawing. (Sawcut Pitch Bone)

Motley Bone - due to the varying colors and cuts of the bone since they're leftovers from many cut pieces. Each knife will be different but part of the same group. (Sawcut Motley Bone)

How about "Chuck Wagon Bone"? Or the darker sounding "Slaughter House Bone"?
