Due to Brian Jones most sincere kindness and pure pigheaded, stubbornness in forcing me to take something I did not expect or want, I have been forced to get even with him by doing the following: Revenge is sweet!
I will be giving away two Bark River, Fox River model knives with my school logo on them to two lucky people (one per person) who attended the CT Gathering.
Here's how it will work. Anyone attending the Connecticut skills Gathering (any day or all of it) this past weekend can pick any number from 1 to 70, I will give Brian the lucky numbers and whoever comes closest to the correct numbers will win the knives. Brian will be responsible for judging the correct numbers. You can post your choice of numbers on this post. Pick your numbers quickly as whoever posts first gets that number. This will be open for number selecting from now until the closing at midnight on the 11th of May 08.
I checked with Brian and he said this will not violate any forum rules.
Good Luck.
Old/Marty Simon

PS The new batch of knives won't be in for a couple of weeks so the bad news is who ever wins one will have to wait.
Also in case 2 folks are equally close on the number we will have them choose a new number, oh hell I'll just leave that to Brian to sort out.

Cool, thanks Marty. I cant believe you, I was just looking on your website, looking at one of these knives! My number: 35

Hey folks,

Thanks Marty, I'd be honored to win one of your School knives, though it's not necessary. I'll take #23.

I'm not in on this one but remember, this is only open to those who were at the event. Please don't ask for a number unless you were there. Very nice gesture Marty. It is a damn shame the fun had to get cut short for our dog friendly attendees.

I'm gonna stick with the number that got me the aurora :D

Lucky #6 please, and thank you.

Thank you very much and it was great meeting you. I hope to run into you again at the next gathering and hope to learn even more

Hey Marty, It was geat to meet you. I can't wait til I get up to NY and take your course. You and Kevin are great teachers, and I was amazed at how much I came way with in that short time. Thanks again. Oh more importantly I'll take #33:D
Thanks for all your generosity.

#51 for me. It was a great day. I wish I could have stayed Sat night and Sunday. Kevin, I'm sorry I didn't get a chance to say thanks before I left. Brian, thanks again. It was a pleasure meeting everyone and it was a real pleasure meeting Marty.

Marty, this is very generous of you. You already gave us so much just by teaching us and coming down to take your time with us (you, too, Aggie!).

It's so very rare, and special, to find people who are such experts in their field, yet so humble, genuine and real at the same time. You and Aggie set the highest example on both counts. Just being around you guys raises everyone's postive energy to a new level. It was amazing to see in others, and to experience it myself.

They also say a person's friends reflect who they are. Your "posse" of regulars that I met, like Big John, Fernando, Jerry, and the others who surround you are also some of the most real, genuine, and solid people I've had the pleasure to meet. They aren't elitists, or a clique. They openly embraced all of us as friends, with encouragement and humor, right from the start. They shared their experience and knowledge without ever once being condescending or patronizing towards others. They made the "newbies" at the gathering feel confident and unintimidated about trying things and not being ridiculed for mistakes. This is why people come back again and again when you and your friends/colleagues are around.

If the dog problem had any kind of postive side, it was that it showed me (and others) for sure what your friends are made of. They stepped in and took the lead when it needed to be done, just because it needed to be done, and they did it calmly without fanfare or grandstanding, and they stood by in support when it was needed. Good judgment, decision-making, and right action.

I look forward to spending more time with all of you at other gatherings.

Anyway, I'm babbling, and it's late, and I am tired, but very happily so.
