WINNER's PICKED! GAW - the little Finn and the Queen

I'm in. Been ogling that Zebrawood Queen Utility for some time. The Kabar is awesome too. Super generous GAW. Just woke up and brain too foggy to think of a good story. Maybe after some coffee...

I'm in! Thanks for the opportunity. I've been interested in Queen for awhile mostly because they offer D2. That zebrawood queen looks very nice. I've frequented the outdoors all my life, but this past year I haven't had as much time. Anyhow here is a shot 1 year ago backpacking in the high eastern sierras in the cottonwood lakes, Mt. Whitney area. The picture was taken at roughly 12,000 ft. It was something more than that but less in 12,500 ft. Really miss hiking.

This shot below is my avatar and was a shot on the way to summiting San Gorgonio, the highest peak in Southern California. In the photo you can see some dark ominous clouds. It was that trip I also experience my closest encounter with lightning.

Woodrow-I haven't heard the ping pong ball joke since abourt 1979:D still absolutely ridiculous. We need more of that on this world.
Dan-the kabar would make a fantastic replacement/addition to my son Ryan's budding collection.last weekend we did a 30 k hike in the Blue Mtns involved with Scouts .
I'm not wanting to "pop my own blisters" here but I'm very proud of his hiking /camping attitude. He just took it all in his stride. I did notice that he'd smuggled along his Mora (the red handled junior type ). Strapped to his belt quite obviously:rolleyes:
As many of you will understand the age 13(boys) is the beginning of the monosyllabic grunting phase of adolescence.Communication is not straightforward. He has always had an affinity for the kind of creatures most people despise-snakes, spiders, bugs ,etc.
I would love to "upgrade"that Mora for him .
Good Luck to all.
and thanks for the chance.
Thats the plateau we traversed down- Narrowneck in the background.

Excellent entries, everyone (well, Woodrow's not-an-entry-entry was, ehh, iffy at best ;) )! Thanks so much for all the great pictures and stories. Lets keep those entries coming!

I'll throw my hat in,
cant hurt right?

mostly cause i dont have anything in D2 and I am curious, besides i really like my case slimline trapper....

my first knife, i remember it was a small stockman. I got it in/for cub scouts and we went on a weekend camping trip. I remember thinking it was a toy, cause i was really into rambo and predator and i wanted a big fixed bowie like rambo had :D
So i was in our cabin and I opened all three blades and was throwing it at the cabin door trying to get it to stick. I recall i was doing pretty well at that and one time i threw it *thunk* YAY! it stuck, just as it hit the door, the door opened and our cub scout master popped his head in. Needless to say, he was not happy with me. He confiscated that knife and I never saw it again.

two things i remember clearly
1) despite thinking it was a toy knife, i was very upset when it was taken from me, mostly because i was then the only person there without his knife and therefore i felt rather stupid.
2) Man, I wish i could find it now, i wonder what it was (this is approximately 1987-1988) so it could have been an old timer or camillus or who knows, but knowing the folks involved, i doubt it was an imported brand. This would have probably been my first knife, so i miss it doubly bad

anyways, thanks for the chance

I'm in.

It's been a busy summer. Moved a few streets over. Probably good willed 5 years of stuff in the process. Both boys currently in sports and prepping for bball in Nov. I'm looking forward to BF becoming a daily habit again.

Sorry, didn't see the post count req, I'm still new to the trad portion of this site...

Disregard, no entry.

Good luck all

Not an entry, but thanks for doing this. Another awesome GAW.

I'm certainly in for a chance of those lovlies.

As a scout leader, I get to go on camping trips that include overnight canoe trips.

But occasionally, I get to take my own family out.

Here is my son (the little guy in blue) busting calves! We go to a fun roundup and camp out every year for the roundup!

A little hike to a waterfall:

Thanks for the additional entries, everyone! Jone, I'm sorry, but you're in! Your generosity is becoming quickly legendary around these parts, and I'm afraid I just have to throw your name in the hat!

Keep them coming, everyone! I'll pull the winners on Saturday. Just a heads up, I may even add another item or two to the giveaway before then!

Bumping this for some more entries! Get them in by tomorrow night, folks. I'll be drawing the winners on Saturday!

Ok, well life got in the way a little bit, and I didn't get a chance to wrap this one up until this morning. That being said, I fired up the random number generator and it spit out the following winners:

Post # 36 - Cory Hess - You've won the Queen #11 Utility!

Post # 21 - Macchina - You've won the Ka-bar 1232!

Congrats to the winners. I eluded to adding another prize or two to this GAW, but I didn't have a chance to decide on what those were going to be, so stay tuned. I'll be hosting another GAW later this week or early next. Thanks to all the entrants!

Wow! Thanks a ton. Like I said, I've been itching to try a Queen. This looks like it'll be a great example to cut my teeth on. I can't believe it. Thanks for making me stay in.
