Winter be gone!!

Had a warmer day in PA finally...almost 50 for a high. :)

Winter might be gone in a few hours...but not without a final kick in the face first... Good thing tomorrow will be in the 50's. :)

Still in progress.

I have had more than enough of winter! I absolutely, positively, adamantly refuse to get the snowblower out of the garage again this year until next November or December! If it snows again, it can just stay on the driveway and sidewalk until it melts naturally. I'm retired, so I don't have to get up and go out for anything if the weather turns bad for a day or two. As far as I'm concerned, winter is over! I'm "hibernating" until the weather turns nicer outside.:)

I saw a few flakes falling this morning but nothing that would stick or be noticeable. I am OK with that.

In the 30's today and tomorrow but back into the single digits tomorrow night and then in the teens for the next few days. Meanwhile, outside:

"Spring has sprung!"

I seem to be in the minority, but I absolutely love winter; the colder/snowier the better. It keeps those who leave empty water bottles, energy bar wrappers, spare bike parts, cigarette butts, etc... at home. I don't have to bring quite as many garbage bags with me on jaunts around local county/state land.

Additionally, it is mosquito and relatively deer tick free.

Absolutely agree, winter is my favorite season, much easier to travel through the boreal forest and water ways, and there is no need for deet. No forest fire threats, and the vermin are hibernating. The long evenings of winter with radiant heat from the wood stove sure beat the stress and starkness of daylight overtaking the evenings we get at this latitude and further north it becomes more intense. Daylight saving time is a travesty; People should adjust for their own schedule and leave the clocks alone on standard time.

This is a depressing time of year for me, I'm already counting the days until we reach the solstice. I can understand why spring is popular for many, but it is not for all of us.

However, there is a 10 bush cord load of white birch the logger dropped off that holds promise of another winter at the end of the driveway that needs to be bucked up and split for the following winter.

It was BEAUTIFUL for a couple of days. . . But I have now heard (hoping rumors) that it will be extremely cold in a couple of weeks. Fingers crossed that they were just lying to me :D

Ok, reviving this one for a bit.

Anybody else frustrated.....

....I guess winter didn't get the memo. Spring has been here since March:mad:

A bit of a reprieve after getting some snow, the snowmobile trail is barely holding on but its still good to go. Tonight its expected to go down to -24. 3 and half feet of ice on the lake and fishing has been good for many, Quite respectable for the first week of April. I can keep the deet in storage for a bit longer.

Hey Bufford,

I know that you're not too fond of summer, with the bugs and all. Still consider you lucky to have access to the great out of doors, like you do👍..... My "local" outdoors still has bities, but nothing like the time I've spent in the northern Quebec area.

You are right, it goes with the territory, one has to take the good with the bad. One becomes part of the land living a lifetime here and over time certain forces of nature start to stand out and become engrained in our mind and inner spirit. While a visit to our area in the height biting fly season will bring memories, living through it over and over throughout a lifetime is quite another thing. We have had some very bad bug years recently, and it almost becomes dreadful to think about having to go through it yet again. Its the price that is paid when choosing to live in a remote rural area.
