Winter Carry is Upon Us

I mostly need a pocket clip that will clear thick/reinforced pockets - which is why most of the stuff I carry this time of year, has a Lynch Clip on it. And, I may start putting some type of lanyard on the ones I carry, as it just makes it easier to get out with gloves on. Otherwise, I'm carrying smaller fixed blades on the belt or waist band.

One complaint about my Kershaw Concierge. The recessed clip is hard to get over thick material.

Being in AZ like S Skar , the knives don't really change per the season. More of the job or environment.

If I do go into snow country (rarely without getting on a plane) something with a lanyard goes in the pocket. Usually something less expensive if it doesn't have a lanyard hole or a way to mount a quick one. I tend to be a mess when I go down on ice.

gotcha. didnt think of that. I wear pants year round......im used to heat and wet and im outside a lot. cant be outside in shorts in the swamps and jungle cause ticks, chiggers, fleas, mosquitos and such eat ya alive. also sharp leaf plants, thorned vines and mess ya have to step through will scrape ya up badly. you already know this as youre from here.

in the city or suburbs, shorts work fine...or if your cj65...he can navigate deepest thickest swamps in shorts and flip flops and be golden.

that makes lot of sense. never thought about that..... I dont even own gloves, dont need them.
Yeah, I'm like "Wait, what? Gloves?"

(Chuckles in Floridian)

I tend to carry the same roster of knives throughout the year, I will wear a jacket, but it usually just means I carry a larger pistol, while the knives remain the same.

We are supposed to get 3-6in of snow by lunchtime tomorrow starting after midnight tonight!!🤮
This will be my snow removal setup!!🤩
John 😁
Yep! This'll be the first plowable snow of the year. I put the snow blade on the tractor last week, and it's filled up with diesel. I just have to decide which knife to carry. Oh yeah......

Summertime, I try to avoid anything more formal than basketball shorts if I'm not working. Usually clip in the waistband at 3 o'clock. Manix 2 LW is like purpose built for this job. Bugouts work. OTFs are great here. If I'm working in the summer, I'll wear Carthartt/Dickies shorts if I can get away with it, and just never liked carrying an 8oz monster in those. I'll still carry something full weight if I ever get dragged somewhere requiring full length trousers. I did a Medford phase that carried through a summer, and I did stay true to my Fighter Flipper in shorts. Other than that, I've always looked at it as an opportunity to carry the lightweight stuff. Summer is knife nerd, sensible titanium/CF, reddit-tier stuff and in the Fall, we break out whatever tactical ninja stuff I'm fixated on that year. With mass getting larger as the temperatures drops. If there's enough snow on the ground to shovel, for whatever reason it's gotta be 4"+ and preferably waved. Voyager XLs can even come into play here. I feel like the public even accepts it more in those types of conditions. You can just shrug and holler "snow" and get a nod of approval. It's an excuse to break out the fun stuff.

Gentlemen, it’s my favorite time of the year for knifing. The carbon fiber axis locks are going into the drawer and the AD10 and small fixed blades are coming out. I love the colder weather. Having an excuse to carry much bigger blades is just a bonus.

My main trio is shaping up to be these. If there’s snow on the field or any chance of gloves, I’m guaranteed going fixed blade or tri-ad lock. I don’t see a reason to go any other direction. If I’m going to be working outside, I’ll probably pull out a voyager and spare these pretty boys. Plus Voyagers are just p4p work knife kings. The CMFTW dagger is another gloved hand beast. Chisel ground and just wants to be in the snow like a huskie.

You guys putting up your dainty summer stuff and bringing out the big boys? Carry the good stuff year round?
Gloves are a big game changer for what I carry. Good post!
