Winter in the Adirondacks

that looks like a ruff winter indeed glad you made it through warmer weather will ne here soon!

Thanks everybody for the kind words. I don't mind it. Really, no poisinous snakes, at least not close by. No poisinous spiders, at least not close by. No traffic jams, no traffic really.

The right clothing makes a huge difference. It take my winter clothing advice from the folks up in Ely, Minnesota. They get the same kind of weather. Although I think we get more snow.

I wouldn't last a week in Texas or Florida. At least not in the summer. A hot day up here is 85.

We got roughly 27" more last night. +1 degree at the moment. Spring is a ways out here.

Derek, my ramps would be great for launching if not for the trees in the landing zones.

I plowed the first 15" or so inches of this storm last night and actually had to take my Silky and cut some evergreen branches so I could get under them.

Maybe another dump on Tuesday

I have enough Becker Knives,

What do you guys think about a Becker Avalanche Shovel??

Two things:
1) Your BK4 looks outstanding stripped with those scales.
2) I think you slipped into another language in that last post; what does "I have enough Becker Knives" mean, exactly? :-) (just kidding, by the way)

LV - that looks real purty and all. I could handle that real easy. During the summer.
For me, any thing much over a glass full of ice or snow is too much for me. :D Give me good ole Texas weather. I'll take an occasional rattlesnake or mesquite thorns over potential frost bite.

Well, it seems winter refuses to release it's grip this year. We got another ten inches last night.

Measured the front yard mid week, had roughly 34" of snow. Assuming I got through all the layers of snow and ice. Before this last dump.

it's 75 and breezy here today - I think I saw some lady fly past the house on a bicycle earlier this afternoon.

Winter has been strange here we had 6 inches of snow three days ago and then yesterday it was 72. I usually love winter but am getting tired of snow one day warm and soggy the next. Come on Spring!!!

We have been issued another winter storm watch expecting another good dump. A late spring will mean a faster transition to summer; spring is our longest season around here and the most difficult time of year, any way of shortening it is welcome.

Sunday April 6th update,

The sun was out today and the temps reached a balmy 39 degrees.

After a quick glance at the fancy grill,

I decided to venture up to camp. With the help of a well placed stick, I was able to find my primitive fire pit. After some digging and swearing, I managed to get it opened up. A quick stop at a spruce tree provided some dry kindling to get things going.

My trusty BK-4 made fast work of some wood I was able to extricate from the snow,

Snowshoes are still very much in need as the snow pack is still over 30"" this morning it was froze over, so it was easy to stay on top. But as the day wore on and it warmed up I started breaking through,

It was nice to see the sun, messed around with the camera a bit, but couldn't achieve what I wanted,

Given the increased scrutiny from the NSA, the CIA, the DEA and the PTA, and the fact that this site is now a Google Hot Spot, I have been training in the dark art of "Shadow Drinking"

The dog had some fun,

The wife got some much needed solar exposure,

And I got my first fire of the spring season,

I must admit I am some what envious of you folks that have already been able to rake your lawns and enjoy standing on bare ground. We are still a long ways from that.

Enjoy,
