Well Uncle Claremore and all that surrounds it is covered in ice and snow. It's very cold and wet out. I had to take Terry to work this morning. We grabbed extra clothes, blankets and of course a khukuri. I don't know how many of the wives out there share there husbands interest in khukuris but I sure felt better having one with me. It's a saftey precaution. Terry only works about a mile from where we live, so if I got stranded I would have no problem walking but you never know who you will meet on the walk. The way things are you just can't tell. There are also mean dogs between home and work. I am sure it's just common sense for all you khukuri knuts to carry one but if your wife or teen is driving alone you might want send a khukuri along with them. (you would definately want to check on knife laws in your area first). In the winter we always carry matches, kitty litter, a candle, extra blankets and clothes. We don't leave home with out
our trusty khukri it doesn't matter the temperature.

And this is the first time in years that we've had a taste of winter up here.

Hi Sandi!

Today was supposed to by our first day to have our nanny come to our house and take care of the two children all day. She's going to do that two days a week. She was taking her husband to work and went over the Big Cabin overpass. She lost control, spun around in a circle, across the two lanes of oncoming traffic (including a semi), and then slid off the road into the ditch. Nobody was hurt but that meant we weren't going to work (and we were planning to). Then I talked to my boss later on and he told me not to bother coming in on my own. He lives about ten miles north of work and he said it took him 2 1/2 hours to get to work. So we are all just having a "snow and ice" day. Hopefully this will be one of those Oklahoma winters where we get all the worst weather in December and then the rest of the winter isn't bad at all. Here's hoping.

Gregg

Right now it is about minus 22 degrees Celsius, rather balmy weather considering the temperature.

I would second Sandi's common sense tips. Good work, Sandi!

Yea!!!! It's Cold here for us!!
The actual temp right now is 18º and with the wind @ 20 mph the wind chill is -10º to -20º and with 5"- 6" of snow in the forecast for Wed. I am gonna hibernate with a Great Big Pot of Okie style vegetable soup.

The problem here is that it changes between below and above freezing. We got freezing rain and then snow then freezing rain. As a result the roads get very slippery (snow over ice). Currently, we are expecting heavy snows about 30 cm's (1 ft.) worth. This should make cycling interesting tommorrow.

I love blizzards and storms as long as I don't have to drive in it.

I keep a sleeping bag and a alcohol burner in my car. Remmeber to open the windows a bit with any fuel heater.

Different weather report, just for a change....
Clear blue sky and sunlight here. Even yesterday's clouds have cleared. Just got back from running an errand, went out in shirtsleeves (short-sleeved shirt, too). There are people walking around in tee-shirts. Left the windows open at home and turned the heat off before I left.

(Actually it's a clear BROWN sky here - that brown cloud we have, y'know.)

Harry,

I saw your hat comment on the survival forum. I have one just like you mentioned. Around here I can drive in the winter with the windows down with it on.

When I'm out with that hat I sort of look like a small yeti with a khukuri.

Will

Will, I would agree, the fur cap with ear and neck flaps is the ideal winter cap to be worn with khukuris. Touques just don't cut the mustard....

:
I used to have one of those fur hats, but it was fake (faux?) fur and in Bright Orange.
Warmest hat I ever had. Now when it gets really cold for here I have a parka that would do well in Canada.

Will I thought only places like Oklahoma had those kinds of conditions. Been a long time since I lived in Minnesota, Montana, Idaho and Wyoming.
I think one of the coldest places we ever lived was eastern Oregon.
Man the high desert gets Really Cold!!!

Gregg glad everything turned out okay for your new nanny and you and yours.
You may be there for the week. It'll be good rabbit huntin' though if you can stand the cold.

Its lightly snowing, cold, and windy in my neck of the woods. I added some Anti-freeze to my car this morning.

We're getting hammered in NW PA too. Last night we had 50+ mph winds.

It took out most of the power in the area and blew a lot of roofs off. My Aunt and Uncle lost part of their barn roof over the hay and straw mow. We just lost a few shingles, but it sure was loud! Right now it's around 20 degrees, with a pretty hefty wind chill. Yesterday it was up in the mid 50's, then last night we got a bunch of rain and snow that froze on the roads. Needless to say, there wasn't any school here today. This makes our second snow day before Christmas, which is unusual. Doesn't bother me any though.

Stay warm everyone!

Uncle,
Today the streets were clear and the only ice seemed to be in the shade. Just a hour or so it began to snow. It is comming down slow in great big flakes. It is cold but there is no wind. I think this is the most beautiful snow I have ever seen. It makes you realize how great God is and how small we are in this world. We are supposed to get about 6-8 inches. We will see. I am glad the weather was nice when you came to visit Uncle but I wish you all could be here now. I bet Yangdu would be vicious in a snow ball fight.
Stay warm and take care everyone!!

Yeah, it snowed up here too. We managed to get home from work in Tulsa before it started. We watched the weather for a couple hours and then called the nanny and told her tomorrow was off. We'll go in again on Thursday. It is a really pretty snow. Our two year old will have a great time playing in it tomorrow.

I hadn't thought of rabbit hunting Yvsa. That's a good idea. I was planning on walking around the creek area tomorrow just to see what kinds of tracks I could find. Maybe I'll get a better feel for how many coyotes I have in the area. I know I have lots of deer!

Gregg

Uncle's got it good up in Reno. Doctor's appt. up there for the kid today. Drove from Hawthorne to Reno to Hawthorne. Snow on side of the road, but road dry, no ice, all the way up and back.
