Winter is here. What to keep in vehicle ?

I keep enough tools in there to build a new car,
spare tire
jack
12v air pump
plug kit
mechanic gloves
zip ties galore
duct tape
electrical tape
4 quarts of oil
gallon of antifreeze
5 gallon gas can
a bottle of break fluid
a bottle of power steering fluid
jumper cables
tow chain
a few giant pieces of plastic (in case I have to patch a busted window)
emergency flares
medical emergency kit
2 big flashlights
extra batteries
an extra change of warm clothes, jacket, pair of boots, hat, and belt
a bunch of bunjee cords

I think thats about it. I'm sure I'm forgetting something.

For my every day drive in a suburban area where there are houses and businesses in sight at all times.

Tools
Jumper cables
First aid kit
Gallon of coolant/antifreeze
Ice scraper/snow brush
Cell phone charger
Set of BDU's (large enough to go over what I'm wearing) These also work for keeping the work clothes clean if I have to change a tire.
Hat/extra gloves
blanket (Coleman flece lined waterproof poncho/blanket - sucks as a poncho but its a warm, weather resistant blanket)
AAA card to cover towing
Bic lighter

For road trips, the list is much longer.

Portable battery jumper thing with airpump
quilt, space blanket
granola bars
large coffee can with lid as portable bathroom, vomitorium, etc.; toilet paper inside
large crow bar
DC>AC converter
cell charger
Maxpedition Fatboy containing PSK, firestarter, multitool, zip ties, duct tape, first aid, etc.
tool box with 8" Fiskar hatchet
extra clothes for myself and family

Could use a small gas container.

All of this stuff rides in a large plastic container.

a few giant pieces of plastic (in case I have to patch a busted window)

Good stuff. I'll have to pick some up soon.

I keep a flashlight (surefire-G2L) and headlamp (cheap one- for changing tires at night)
batteries
some tools: pliers, screwdrivers, wrenches, etc.
duct and electrical tape
blankets
army canteen (in case i have to melt snow)
a couple of those survival candles
lighter
flares, strobe beacon, road triangles
small snow shovel
Luna bars (the wife likes them) and sometimes a gallon of water
paracord
gloves
Mora (#760-MG)

Think thats it. Good topic.

It really depends what I'm doing.

I'll be taking a trip in two weeks that's 3 hours away with my 4 month old, the wife, and the dog. We'll be in a Jeep Liberty so space will be limited. I'll probably have some stuff either on the roof or on the hitch hauler on the back.

Here's what's coming with us in case of emergency (excluding stuff that comes with the car, Spare, etc)

Emergency Blanket
Fire starting gear
Ponchos
Jumper cables
Batter booster
Flashlight & Spare batteries
Gloves
Latex gloves
Tool kit
Duct tape
Disposable seat covers
rags
Folding saw
Tow strap
Large FAK to include what's needed for infant and dog
Nav system
550 cord
E tool
A bunch of knives :):)

I'm sure I'm missing something..

In the Trunk, I have the general tool setup...I just bought some new cables..extra heavy duty! They are awesome..and for $30 bucks, why not? I keep a first Aid setup (military with IV bags and surgical kit) Army wool blanket, work related tools..(carpentry) and some extra fluids for the car..oil and anti freeze. I have extra gloves and a hat in the car..+ a flashlight, and ofcourse..a knife..usually 2..in the morning before I leave for work..I pick one for the day from the collection...kind of a ride for the day deal!:D

Just kidding, of course, Dylside :D

:D Doc :D

One of the best things to have is those survival candles!

If your stuck in a storm DON'T LEAVE YOUR CAR!!!!!!!!
Those candles can keep it nice and warm all night without running the engine just crack the window a bit for a tiny bit of air flow.

Kitty litter for traction!

jumper cables and a elastic tow strap. I have pulled big trucks out of snowbanks with my old Sentra using the elastic straps.

Winter is also a great excuse to have a deadly weapon like the Cold Steel Spade nice and handy on your back seat. However I have to really watch digging a car out with mine because the razor edge will go through a sidewall like nothing.

A cell phone. Even ones that are not hooked up can call 9/11.

no trunk, lol! i drive a truck! 5 x 25 liter jerrys or sometimes i borrow a gas rated Tidy-Tank. Around here if you go down some of the old roads, you NEED to carry at LEAST the amount you need to get back to the nearest town, plus extra to compensate for loads, hills etc...

I also carry a set of Tire Chains and a full size steel digging shovel to chop through the hard stuff and to be able to reach under the truck, to clear the snow.

You guys must not get very cold, I need lots of gas to either keep the car running while in the store, or an exstention cord to plug the car in. Winter here is cold enough to freeze and engine in not alot of time after shutting it off, were talking minutes.

We can get ticketed here, leaving a Car/Truck running unattended.
