Steering back to Northern, I can't imagine sleeping in wool blankets alone without a heat source. Now, going to a canvas tent & stove combination would be a blast and a wool blanket would fit right in there rather nicely I'd say!
 
Hi. Unless I missed it, I've not heard any talk of snow shelters. Assuming Canada and snow and what not, why not a snow shelter?

I go backcountry(ish) here in Alberta (Calgary area). We like to make a quinzee (snow-cave). Our last one, it was -25C outside and -1C-0C inside. Ya gotta get the ceiling right, nice and smooth, so you don't get any dripping. It was a blast. I've done tents, but that ain't a whole lot of fun. Throw down some pine boughs, etc, for a nice soft and insulated floor.
