The river has not frozen up on our section so we have a lot of resident geese this year. They graze in the farm fields during the day and return to the river and sleep on the island in the evening. They disappeared in mid October when the first shots were fired during waterfowl season. The geese move inland to the fields or go into the parks where they are safe. They returned in late January after the hunting stopped. There are also many Mallards mixed in. They are a noisy lot. Here in Northestern Ohio geese and ducks are a common sight in the skies. Their honking and quacking on the river is like music to us outdoor people. These pictures were taken off my deck. The water is high and walleye run will start in late March or April as soon as the water goes down and warms up.
