Good stuff buddy, that little stove is a great idea !

Ps. Great looking dog.....Maisy said if she was 5 years younger she'd have been all over him !:D

Looks pretty good. Would like to know how it does when you get a 'better' stove in place. If it works well, I may have something to try out.

Looks very nice and seems well ventilated, but I'd suggest a portable CO sensor of some kind while you prototype.

When you had everything closed up how warm did that stove get your shelter? I could imagine if you got your shelter fairly sealed it could get that area pretty warm compared to outside.

Great post! I was wondering if maybe an old jerry can would do ok for a stove...would be a bit bigger, but I love the in the field improvisation possibilities shown.

I would say it was about 20 degrees warmer inside the shelter than outside.

I think a gerry can would work fine. My goal is to have a shelter and stove I can carry in a pack or in a sled. Glad you liked the post.

Rick and i discussed a break down stove made out of sheetmetal once. One with all the sides nearly the same size with hook tab attachments. I need to look into that more...

I always enjoy your posts.

Funny you should mention that. I think I have a retired sheetmetal worker looking into that very idea.

20 degree is very nice! If it was 30 out 50 inside would be quite nice!!! I bet it could even get warmer if the tent was seal up tighter. That is so awesome! Fantastic post.

I have seen quite a few of the Ammo Can Stoves (.50 cal). They look like they put out some high heat! But they would be bigger and heavier.

Yesterday I went out and did another test. I have decided to make a new larger stove and add a damper to the pipe. Just not hot enough.

Here is you knife pic. The original Turley Soldier River got some work.

very cool. definitely keep us updated with what you come up with. i have been working on something similar and can't get it right. i would also love a break down model like kifaru makes.

I had protos drawn up for two different sizes when I worked at a metal fab shop a couple of years ago but then things went south for them and I never got to cut them out. I think the idea is a sound one, just needs some experimenting and field testing done with it to find the right size and guage to be useful but not too heavy to hump through the bush.

mist I have access to a metal shop, let me know if you have your old plans...there is a possibility I could have them cut it up. They have a laser so prototyping is very quick!
