I bought a spool of 30 pound Spiderwire fishing line and some stainless steel bobbin's. I wound each of them up with more than 60 feet of the Spiderwire. I then wrapped the wire with super bright duct tape to hold the wire in place and make sure you could see it if dropped. I am not sure if you all have seen Spiderwire - but it is TINY and STRONG! Notice the 30 pound weight is the same diameter as 8 pound mono filament. This means a lot of STRONG line on one bobbin.

I made a couple for give away kits for my school - made one for myself - and I am giving the rest to WSS posters who are in need. I have 3 full bobbins to give away - and one 1/2 bobbin. For the person who gets the 1/2 bobbin - I will through in an empty bobbin for another kit - EDIT - I found an Altoids tin - I will toss the 1/2 bobbin in the tin for the last person!

There are no real rules - nothing you should post - just make sure you could use it and post up. I will PM you for your address and send it off as soon as I can.

Happy Yule, Merry Christmas, and a Happy New Year.

that is very cool of you TF... i did the same thing a while back.. i love spider wire...:)

Well - I originally bought it for my sons Shakespear Spiderman / Superman fishing pole's. It does not work very well with their kit. I will get just normal mono filament for those. It was time to make Lemonade out of lemons.

I thought of someones post on here and spin some up. My fingers are green - but it is a small price to pay.

Thats pretty neat as well as generous. Where did you get the little bobbins?

Hobby Lobby. They are about 50 cents a piece. No money at all. I would say you could do this entire project for 15 dollars - and have about 6 bobbin's full. Or, if you wanted to simply re string a fishing pole - save a bobbin worth for PSK.

It isn't really generous. More like fun!

I've received a gift or two from the good folks here at BF recently so I'm going to sit this one out. Just wanted to say, that's mighty generous of you TF.

Very generous of you, brother. I'll sit this one out, too. I use the 50lb test for snares... they'll hold a good sized rabbit... but racoons will break it if they can get a little slack to play with.

Walkin'dude:

I have ship you the 1/2 full bobbin - feel free to strip it off and use it for whatever and keep the bobbin.

Mag,

Yeah - I use snare wire. This was meant for a fishing kit, or sewing, or anything else line can come in handy for.

TF,

Thanks for the opportunity, I'm in.

Have you tried unwinding it? I have never used the monofilament in my PSK, but I hear it is a mess when you try to unwind from a small diameter, and I was wondering if this stuff was the same way.

By the way, great idea with the tape.

Shoot me a pm TF, I'm looking forward to trying some of that spyder wire. You can keep the bobbin if you need to, I think the wifes gotr a couple laying around !

Very Cool of you TF! I use spider wire on most of my fishing reels! I love the stuff.

Any trouble with them biting through it, or line breaking from rubbing against rocks or trees; or do you kind of do a twitch up to get them off the ground? I always found spiderwire to be strong but easily frayed when fishing around rocks etc.

What a nice offer!
Ironically, I actually just bought a 4 pack of these last week at WalMart for 97 cents to use for my sewing and fishing kit!
Not sure if they are stainless though.....they had plastic ones too for the same price.

Chewbacca and 1Tracker gets one each! The cool thing about this is that it seems to have no 'memory' Mono stays all coiled up - this does not seem to.

I have One left!

TF - These are exactly the kind of thing I would like to see more of in the "trade" area. Buying the proper supplies provides enough for several people. Some guys could do these, another could collect (or buy a box of) fatwood and divide it into smaller packets etc. . .

What do you think? I have a bucket of small spy capsules that I've been thinking of putting up there, but currently people seem to be trading more high ticket items.

TF, I meant if you have one of the bobbins with the spider wire on it I would take one for my kit, sorry about the confusion :(

Plastic bobbins are very cheap and light. If you have a sewing machine with an external winder, buy the right kind and you can use the sewing machine to wind your line.

If you don't have the sewing machine, find a bolt that fits snugly in the bobbin center and chuck it up in your drill.

Ditto on the tape

Spectra and other braided lines are much better behaved. I agree that monofilament is like a coiled spring when rolled small and tight.

Once you use Spectra, you'll never bother with mono line for PSK kits. The stuff is $pendy, but works great.
