As the colder weather comes on, I get nostalgic for my fathers big pots of stew, simmering on the stove, after a cold day of playing in the snow with friends and the dogs. Later years, my fathers venison chili (had some over the weekend, goooooooddd). Raided the fridge and pantry last night for dinner. Came up with deer steaks, eggs, pierogies and left over sweet sausage. Great breakfast for dinner. Omelette with fried onions, mushrooms and shrimp, with aforementioned deer steak, sausage, pierogies and a big glass of water to wash it down (hey, you make do :D).

What do you like to sit down to on these cold wintry nights? I'm eating a salad right now. Just doesn't cut it. Hot cup of tea/coffee/cocoa, bowl of beef stew with kale and barley.

My wife makes a fantastic broccoli cheese soup, and her biscuits and gravy are incredible! She`s a southern girl, and knows how to cook, if you saw me, you would know! Almost forgot, homemade beef pot pies too.

i loooove me some stew or soup during the winter time.... i try and make a soup or stew at least once a month, when it's cold out...

i'll be making a big ol' pot of chili tomorrow...:D

I got my father a huge can of pork and beans at the cannery a couple months ago. He said he is saving it for the winter months. Well, he took it out of the pantry, and is going to make it on Saturday.

I foresee a cold house with lots of open windows.

Chili is always a good winter food, around here they make it with beef, beans, and get this spaghetti! Then they load up with cheese, onions and sour cream.

Probably my favorite winter foods are good old oatmeal, and malto-meal.
