Winter !!!

Kismet, while I have great respect for both you and HD, I simply must question the cognitive faculties of anyone living in such an area...on purpose:D

Beautiful stuff, the snow...but keep it up there, k? thanx.

Desolate beauty... what do the Russians say about winter? something like, "a curse that is a part of one's own existence." By which I think they mean life would be unimaginable without the change of the year.

Or possibly, "Curse it- this damn cold is something I could exist without, I imagine." Something like that.

Mike

Kismet, somehow you fine folks have taken our Buffalo snow. You, sir, may keep it. It's been all quick storm, thaw, flood, rain, black ice,mud this year in Western New York. Very odd.

Mike, I have a pile of Russian lit that I'd like you to transliterate. Yours is the light version of the Russian dark, I like it : )
Same for their music. This year, tearfully, was our oldest daughters last high school violin concert. They played ' A Russian Easter Overture ' and it started as a sort of dirge and went into some kind of...we're grateful we're not so cold now joy. My gosh, they sounded so perfect, and now they are moving on...

Be Well All,

Oh heck that ain't so bad. I can see that in my back yard right now. This is the time of year when I put on my ushanka, toss down shots of ice cold wodka and stand outside cursing the bolsheviks. Sprink is coming. :D

Coldwood,
I do declare, I do love them holiday 12 mixes from your local Saranac tippleries. Though I do admit, the caramel one is a pancake kinda thing.

Looks too danged cold for me! But then the nice thing about winter up north is that it gets cold and stays cold, or at least it did back in the '40s and mid '50s unlike here in Oklahoma where it can be 25* one day and 70* the next! :grumpy: :(
There isn't any wonder why so many folks get sick so often and why it, the sickness, stays around for so long.:(

I have very fond memories of skiing on hills like these in the early '50s. Didn't have any long underwear so I wore two pairs of jeans and when I came in for the day and took the outer pair off they would stand up from the knee down seeing as how they were frozen stiff. :D

Here's your pic Kismet my friend. :D

Yuh nSuh?

The third deer this year was shot from the spot I took the picture. It was standing right at the closest treeline (@ 125 yards) to the far left of the picture.

Too much snow, the poor things are looking for food ANYWHERE. About 15 inches of snow at the time.

Thanks for the help.

Kis
enjoy every sandwich

Keno, I usually don't shoot ANY deer, but get them from DNR or some friend with a passion for deer hunting.

But yes.

Three with the Mosin 44, two with the Guardia Civil in .308. This year is anomalous.

But it has been too cold to go out in recent weeks. I did make a deer drag after near killing myself hauling out some of the others. It's ugly, but I think functional. Lexan, cut and heated to bend...like an NDN toboggan, but with less skill.

Looks like pure function right there, Kis. Good work!:)

Plus, the lexan is nice if the deer ever start to shoot back;)

Good idea Kismet. I have an old horse path running the length of my hollow on one side. If I can drag the deer up or down to it a wheelbarrow is great to get deer out with.

You have good taste, Sir. I personally like the Black & Tans and Black Forest. :D

I enjoy the starkness of winter and the opportunity to see things typically hidden from view during the other seasons. Snow is a rarity here, however, and the chances of seeing any this season are getting slimmer by the day. Daffodils are blooming and I've seen forsythia and azaleas beginning to flower.

You're killin' me :D I will be happy to trade you bloomin' daffodils for the starkness of winter. LOL

Nah, thankyou :D Our summers here in northern New York can easily get into the mid-90s with 90 percent humidity. That's enough for me.
