WIP – Help me build a fighter

The jade G10 was sent to me by somebody but sadly I can't remember who. I think it might be Matthew Gregory

Don't think that came from me, bud - but there WAS a piece of CruForgeV I was hoping to see you use!

Now for my usual iconoclastic position...

Not all fighters need to be Bowie blades. I'm not shying you away from these designs, mind you, and in fact I agree with Joey about a ton of this stuff. HOWEVER. My skinny ass is 6'2", and 154 pounds soaking wet with a rock in my pocket. The last knife Nicky and Joey just collaborated on is fabulous, and in a perfect world would be exactly what I would desire to have in my possession in a bad set of circumstances. The truth, though, is that either of these two guys could grab me by the ankles and wing me around like that knife and likely not notice the difference until it was apparent that my forehead wasn't cutting anything - they're both big guys. My only hope will rely on reach and speed, and although the balance they speak of is certainly capable of making a blade feel 'fast', it's not the same as being 'light'. So, aside from running away (still the best option), I'll need something a bit different.

Maringer's Vorpal series are a stark contrast, and readily come to mind.

I have a beautiful stag handled piece from Derrick Wulf that's light and fast, too. Almost Bowie-ish, but light, thin, and fast.

I hesitate to mention Loveless designs, as they always felt like bricks in my hand. Aesthetically I can appreciate them, but not my cup of tea to carry.

This forum in particular seems to gravitate to Bowie style blades, and although I love them, there's a whole world out there aside from them!!!

Thanks for your iconolastic view Matthew. Of course now I have to go Google what that means. ;)

Kidding aside, I appreciate the input. Interesting.

And that I do remember Matthew. Sorry it's taking so long. That piece of CruforgeV has been sitting on my bench ever since I got it for the right knife to come along. :o I had a scandi in mind.

Matt is right on with the Vorpal series being sweet :)

Matt Nick and I are old now and all we can do is hit things with are purses :)

I vote you make an ulu. If you have to make a big knife then do a chef's knife. Stay away from the blood-lust cutlery my friend. Okay, didn't talk you out of it ...then I'll follow your thread along with relish and admiration.

Did we do a trade some time back for some chunks of what was being called margarita green G11 and a file guide? Maybe it's a piece of that stuff?

It should look exactly like this.

You're welcome. :p;)

P.S. Don't listen to Ben... he cray-see!

I've been accused of worse! : )

From what I understand they work about the same and yield about the same results, although G11 can handle higher temps. In other words, G11 would excel in a hot kitchen. :D

Don't listen to that Gregory fella, he's clearly off his meds...

:D

He brought up some good points... there are so many styles that fit into the spectrum that is a "fighting" knife. I was just going specifically with some of the main elements I'm after with a fighting Bowie since you had mentioned me in your op. :)

Now, if you wanted to go in a completely different direction, and focused your attention to the other side of the globe, the Japanese seem to have figured a few things out about battle ready tools over the years. ;) :)

Oh, and what I wrote about a blade blank.... was intended as a gift for a friend, that I know would appreciate it... not as a solicitation for a sale. :)

I know that's what you meant Nick, I was just being polite. :p;)

PS: Ok, ok Phil, I give up.:grumpy: ;) I'll make one as a test run for using the stuff on the fighter.

Ha, ha, ha...you're too funny Pat! You can make a killer knife to deal with any and every onion that comes your way!
