WIP-Custom Becker inspired Sheepsfoot ! ! !

Alright. I decided to go ahead and modify the blade profile a little more. I think I like it this way better.

What do you guys think? Do you like it?

Thanks

Next I need to go get a piece of 1018 mild steel to make a pattern with so that I can make more. Then I will grind the bevel.

Just leave the area right above your finger unsharpened, like a recessed ricasso, and I think your on to something.

I've never been much of a fan of this blade shape, but this build is very impressive....and changing my opinion very quickly.

Thanks

That looks even better. Great job!

Good point ST; you'll need some sort of protection if your hand slips forward...

Thanks everyone else for your comments. I appreciate it. I made some knives years ago, and nothing really since. This is only the second one I have started working on since I finished building my new belt grinder this month. I like the way it is turning out.

I got the pattern made today, so now I can get started grinding the bevel. I didn't want to grind the bevel until I had the pattern made. The only alteration to the pattern is the made the blade a little wider. Once this one is done I am going to make a few more I think. My brother wants one, and so does my wife.

Keep an eye out for more.

Thanks,
Greebe

I would like to have one each in the #8 Post ~~ love that Choil as it makes the Knife.!
Like yours to Greebe but would not buy as I really like the 2 in Post #8 and I would buy one each right now.!! BAM****

So I got the bevel ground out to 120 grit. Need to get it finished to 400 or so and then I will heat treat it.

I am debating on how I want to finish this blade as 1084 rusts quickly. I could do a forced patina like I did with my BK-7, or I could parkerize it as I am set up to meet mil-spec requirements for some of the machined parts I make in house.

What do you guys think?

OK so here is a little photo update. I went out and drilled the two half inch holes in the handle for better balance and added a lanyard hole. Keep in mind this is still at the 120 grit phase and the bevel will get taken down to 400 tonight. So things will be much more finished looking in the next set of photo's.

Overall I am liking my design pretty well. I am going to make another one soon, but make the blade a bit wider like I originally had it.

So tonight I sanded the knife down to 400 grit and it looks much nicer now. Just need to heat treat it and do the final finishing. It is getting close. Whooheee!!
