Alright her goes nothing both my first wip and my first folder all in one.
I am going to be using titanium for the frame lock side and g-10 for the other side with a g-10 spacer
it will be skeletonized on the titanium to cut back on the weight, All of the hardware will be stainless steel except for the bushings which will be phosphorus bronze, The blade will be 1/8 inch cpm154 or cpms30v if these turn out good i might make a few and sell them ,im hoping to make them more of an edc knife with a deep carry pocket clip and all i think im going to have the frame powder coated black and the i could switch up the g-10 for variance. I have it all drawn out in autocad im going to post pics tomorrow .

Does anyone know of a good source for grade 2 titanium for the prototype and for grade 5 on future knives .125 thick 12 by 12.

Why buy 2 different types?

Just prototype and produce in the same material - the price difference is not that different.

Halpern titanium

would be my first places to check

i got a quote for grade 2 from a metal supply house and they said 250 for .125 x 12 x12 is that very high or is that about average anyway thanks count ill check out those 2 places

that seems more like it the price of titanium seems to vary alot ive gotten quotes from 5 places anywhere from 120 a sq. ft to 250 a sq. foot how does the grading work is it the higher the number the better it is or the lower the number the better it is such as 2 being the best and 6 the worst or does it go the other way around

grade 2 is commercially pure not what you want

best and worst depend on application

Grade 5 is 6Al 4V
It's what you want, it's springy it's the most commonly used.
Grade 5, also known as Ti6Al4V, Ti-6Al-4V or Ti 6-4, is the most commonly used alloy. It has a chemical composition of 6% aluminium, 4% vanadium,

I get a lot of my Ti on fleebay. Just do a search for 6Al-4v titanium sheet. Frequently you can find some good deals. I have also found some usable odd shaped pieces under "titanium scrap", especially if you are just using it for small folders. For a small pocket folder, something about 0.85 to 0.100 is thick enough. Even then you will need to make a cut in the lock bar to thin it or it will be hard to push it to unlock. I usually make a cut down to 0.060 or a little less.

ok so grade 2 is not what i want the knife overall is 7.25 all th way open and 4.5 closed the blade is an even 3 is this good for .1 titanium or is thicker needed ?

the saga starts tonight though for some reason i cant upload my pdf of the drawings but anyways, we have decided to make 12 knives 1 for me 1 for my buddy who is funding this (these 2 will be out of mike norris gator skin damascus) and 10 for sale as it stands now the estimated sale price for the knives is going to be about 220 for a basic titanium frame lock g10 spacer and scale 1/4 inch pivot and roller bearings and either cpm154 or s30v for the blade however on our 2 knives we will be adding some custom touches like a anodised aluminium back spacer and custom turned titanium thumb studs do you think these are features people are willing to pay for or are they just going to make the knives hard to sell also how does every one feel about sandblasted finishes on the whole knife g10 and all over say a mirror finish i plane on these knives to be a mix of an edc and a tactical blade if these turn out good and sell well i hope to start making knives more and more to sell and build up my name in the market on the prototype knife i had about 20 hrs into it so i expect to have at least 30 into each one they will be tip up carry and have custom bent ti pocket clips .

i would like to get these pdfs uploaded but im must not be tech savy enough to do so could i email it to someone (maybe a mod.) and get these up loaded for people to see what they started out as and see them as they progress
