Lately I have been dabbling with a few Svord Peasants, and this re profiled blade just screamed for a better handle. I had a few pieces of honey buffalo horn on hand and thought; why not give this a go?!
first I made the balsa mock up to try to get a feel for the ergonomics and such, then ripped the slabs to thickness and cut out a profile. A couple of holes placed where they needed to be, then temporary pins and a pencil to get a feel for how this thing might actually work out...
oh yeah, I also rough cut the brass spacer for the butt, and peined a bronze bushing into the blade hole...
then I proceeded to work out the details of the spacer allowing for pins and blade clearances...
and now we are done with most of the TFAR engineering ...now on to assembly time...
* lots of steps missing in between
( lots of pinning and sanding and such )
All NS pinned construction, final sanding and buffing are yet to come. The weight of the buffalo horn gives this thing a very solid feel, and the action is a little on the tight side ( my preference) so I believe that this thing can be put to hard use confidently...
Will post more pics after final finishing work is done...
Thanks for looking...
