A silly pic of my engineering notebook cover (my wife got me that for our anniversary) and the stamping on the machete blade.

That competition cutter looks really sweet!! I'm loving the grind on that thing, I'm thinking with that tapered tang the weight distribution is going to be fantastic. I'm looking forward to seeing pics of it with the handle finished.

These competition cutters are really making me smile. I rough shaped the handles today, and couldn't resist filing one of them to shape. There is still all the sanding steps to go on the handle, and all the finishing steps to go on the blade and spine. Also, marking. But you can really get a feeling for the life of the blade at this point. The tapered tang and relatively thin steel make this thing fast and fun just to hold. The grind is 2" high convex on 5/32" thick 01 steel. Right now the edge is .020" thick, and will be thinner at the time of sharpening. The blade is 9.5 and the handle 5.5" long. I went ahead and softened the spine and tang for the first third of the blade length. This first one is scaled in East Indian Rosewood. Its got matching liner, pins, and bullseye filler of natural canvas micarta. I've got one with much thicker handles downstairs wearing burlap micarta from Shadetree.

Any of you guys do cutting competitions?

Me too. I have a lot to learn about competition cutters and I need an experienced user to test one out. I want to know how far 01 can go in a test like this.

Andy, The comp cutter is a nice size knife, a good one to add to your line . Glad to see you still get excited about new knives .

Its funny. I'm excited about several knives in this batch. There is a Woodsman for Kid that is looking great, a Hunter wearing stablaized walnut crotch over EIRW thats gorgeous, a Recluse with a tapered tang and Wenge scales, and a sweet hand rubbed and Cohea etched Nessmuk that is really nice too. I get excited at the end of every batch. Especially as the finish goes onto the wood.

This is making me get very exited! Can't wait to see the finished product!
