I'd almost rather have him use it, I had to take my dad to the ER to get a small piece of metal out of his side and when the doc was done he asked if we wanted any of the used tools. I took the scalpel and to my surprise my pocket knife really was sharper, it was a nice grind on the scalpel though

idk something that can cut through a car door with no effort is sharp enough for me.

will the DMT Diamond Magna-Guide Aligner Sharpening System get a nice shaving sharp blade or should i buy extra stones with it?

also for a recurve blade would i need a special stone?

I can get my knives shaving-sharp with the red DMT stone. That is, the fine stone. So if that kit includes the red stone and/or green stone, then yes.

Yes. But the one that is used with the DMT Aligner system is said to be no good. If you require sharpening for recurves, a rod system will do better for you. And by that, I'm hinting directly at the Sharpmaker.
