Wiring a motor for forward and reverse?

Hi guys,

Is is possible to wire an electric motor (for example, a typical 1.5 HP 120V 1 Ph) to run in two directions (forward and reverse) via a simple switch? If I'm not mistaken, reversing motor direction is usually a matter of switching polarity on one set of the motor's wires and I'm wondering if a switch could be set up so I could run it in either direction with the flick of said switch.

Thanks for any help!

Some can some cant. Most can however, I run all my buffers/disk grinders like that.

Some motors are reversal, some not.

Pull the cover off the motor and see if you have a connection tag.
Or search the motor model brand and number for a connection diagram.

Usually at most it will say reverse the Colour1 and colour2 wires.

Then get a 2 HP DPDT switch and wire it like this.

It's been covered dozens of times here.
You can probably find better answers with searching too.

Thanks for the quick info, guys! I apologize for not doing a thorough search first before posting...I've got a bunch of balls in the air this morning and was kinda needing a quick answer.
