Wiring a motor

So I got a Coote and I bought a 2HP motor that I plan to run on 115V in the garage. My problem is that I don't really know how to wire the motor. There isn't much of a diagram on the panel. I talked to some electrician (seemed shady) about wiring it up for me and he said he would charge me $100.00. He also said that I'd have to run a ground wire from the chasis to a stake in the ground just to protect myself as well as screwing down the ground wire on the panel. I'm obviously thinking this is a bit of a rip off and was wondering if you guys could offer me any assistance in wiring this thing without killing myself or burning the house down. Don't suppose there is anyone in Southern California?

go to the manufacturer's website and look for data on that model. It should be very easy.

Good luck

Should be able to get by the extra ground by simply plugging into a GFI Ground Fault Plug, like the ones in the bath or kitchen.

Post a pic of the data plate if you can. I can probably figure out what you need to do to hook it up. Usually there are 2 or 3 wires on a motor, 1 hot and 1 neutral, the 3rd is usually a ground. You simply hook up a 3 wire plug on it and plug it in. Some motors come with the possibility of 220 or 110 and it might involve moving a strap or swapping around a couple of wires in the peckerhead. Either way its pretty easy.

"Generally" the wires are color coded. Look inside the cover plate where the wires go in motor. "Usually" Green=ground, White=neutral, Black=hot wire. Take cover off an outlet in your shop and match up the wires. Replace the outlet with a GFI. This advice is not professional, but how I have done it for my shop. Take this and all non professional advice with grain of salt. A good licensed electrician would run at least the 100 or more.

The only diagram I can see even after opening is on the outside of the housing with white, black, and yellow going to Line 2 and red, blue and orange going to Line 1. I honestly don't know what that means I haven't bought a 20Amp switch, switchbox, or even any cord/cable.
