Wiring help for oven

Yes Cat, he needs to be able to repeatably change set points, ramp times, soak times, etc. A programmable pid controller is absolutely neccassarry and the right choice for the application.

Thanks for setting things straight i hooked it up the way you said and low and behold it worked it was set for 50f came on when i turned on the power to the element almost instantly the temp went from 32f to about 55f then shut off then started cycling. I will bring it up to temp tomorrow. Two cords was easy for me:p i'm electricaly challenged:D.

Thanks again everone for your help!

Cheers Bob

Great, glad it worked.

Are you going to use the ramp function in your test, or just set point it? If just using set point I would recommend walking it up in steps to see if you get any suprises. Until the fuzzy logic gets things worked out systems can sometimes run away on you.

Best,
Steve

Steve i did not get the ramp function but yes i agree to take it up slowly. Should i do the auto tune thing?

Bob

KYes, I would auto tune after you are satisfied everything is functioning correctly at the various temps. Let the oven completely cool before doing so, tho, to mimic true operation from startup. Most auto tuners do a good job in the majority of applications, but sometimes you need to adjust for PID manually to achieve a steady temperature.

I'll help best I can if you have any other questions. I've never made a kiln but I have repaired/calibrated industrial ovens, and in a previous life designed some hot die welders and hot air polymer forming machines.
