i understand. i will get very protective though very quick. we're gonna be working a wedding (videography) this saturday, so it should be fun.

A friend and I worked a wedding once for distant family. Video and pics.
You had to damn near force everyone to either get IN the picture or get OUT.
Everything ended fine though.
If there are kids, make sure you get them on camera. Those
were the funniest parts. Unless of course you're getting paid
to do a tasteful ceremony video. Be sure not to breath real heavy or whisper
if the mic is on too. :)

Good luck.

just an fyi, this will be my 42nd wedding ive done video for in a lil over 2 years. i am by no means a rookie lol (i know exactly what you mean, its really hard to get the right ppl in the shot, especially when they are drunk). she, on the other hand, is a rookie. i trained her a lil bit on running a camera. she did fine (and im not just saying that. she has a nack for photography). it'll be a great chance to get to know eachother thats for sure :D.

ok what do you guys think about this one? here is the run down of what my plans are

starting next year, NROTC for 4 years (yeah, another year of college.....). hopefully i can stay at my current school and take ROTC at another college. i feel that if i leave the college im going to now, i will royaly screw things up in the long run.

here is the scarry part for me. after a year in the Navy, i am going to try out for the SEALs. if i make it in (and i dont really see why i wont make it. if you people knew how i think half the time, you wouldnt be surprised by my picking the SEALs) im kinda concerned about what family (the goal is to possibly be married before i graduate rotcy) is gonna be like. i wont be able to tell them anything, i will be in far more dangerous situations than the normal soldier is.

so in short, i would like to be married before the navy, but wanting to go into SEALs scares me with that respect. anyone here a former SEAL or spec-ops that i can talk to?

SEALs ha, not an easy path there m8, physically and mentally it'll take a lot out of ya, and will replace it with even more. Just remember one thing, once you started something finish it. As for getting married, I didn't, but i can tell ya one thing its sure feels nice to get that letter, to know that someone is waiting there for you, that where ever you are you are not alone, and most importantly you have somewhere to come back. And you will want somebody to comeback to. My commander, while on leave walked a girl home because it was dark, and she lived in the bad part of town, he didn't know her, but he asked if he could write to her, because he had nobody else, but us. A lot of guys who came back, turned to alcohol, drugs and such, you see shit, shit that shouldn't be happening in todays world, and it eats at you slowly. You can be all macho and tough, you don't even need to whine, or tell anybody about what happened, but you need somebody to say "I'm here for you." That will ease you life after greatly. It doesn't need to be a girl it could be a friend who cares. But this is a double edged sword, if god forbid something were to happen to you, that will hurt the ones who care for you a lot.

Best advise I can give you here is think it through, and once you made up your mind don't look back.

Is this a joke? You went all Mall Ninja on us....Do you realize the level of difficulty in becoming a member of the Navy Seals? If you are serious, I would talk to as many adults as you can about this.

What college are you going to? Have you talked with your advisor? And what are you thinking about all the time that would make you a good candidate for the SEALS? I recommend you read the Dick Couch books Warrior Elite and The Finishing School before you proclaim that you are a sure thing to make it. And you should NOT get married until AFTER school and AFTER you have a career.

Have you applied to ROTC school yet? Your goals don't seem too well thought out. Can you apply for the Seals with only one year of service? I thought you needed a college degree to apply?

TJ, please don't think I am trying to discourage you from aiming high with your goals, but you have a lot to think about. Marriage should be FAR from your thought at age 18. You need to think about college and your education now, then a job, then a family. Talk to some recruiters at your campus before joining the ROTC too. Good Luck.

thanks. yes it is a double edged sword. thats the one thing that scares me. i dont care if i die serving my country, its what happens to those back home.

yeah Jeremy i know what the level of dificulty is. If i dont try, then i will never know. I feel that i can do it. I am trying to talk to alot of adults (heck im going to be talking to my psych teacher this tuesday about the SEALs. see waht he thinks about it from that point of view) about this. Its not easy finding some that i feel i can tell them about the SEALs. My school is a school in cincinnati. Next year i will prolly be going to Miami (OH), which is when ROTC will start.

According to the SEAL website, the cut off year is 28 years old. Im going to be going to a ROTC school next year (yeah its another 4 years, but oh well).

i dont think that you are discouraging at all Jeremy. actually im looking for honest responses like the one you gave me. i appreciate it. if i didnt want to hear it, i wouldnt have asked. i will have to read those books. they sound interesting.

just some background, i have been interested in the Special Ops world for years now. i have looked all over for info on the special forces, especially the SEALs.

also take into account Jeremy, and everyone else, i am looking more for responses and opinions than anything right now. sry if i didnt answer all of your questions Jeremy, but I really dont want to answer them all on this forum. I only want to answer them to my closest friends (both my age and adults). So please dont ask for anything else. this is still years away, SEALs is. i've been thinking about that for about 4 years now to be honest.

like i said, if anyone knows someone who was in the Special Forces or is currently, could you help me get in touch with them. i would like to talk to them.

thanks guys

1. SEAL training, any spec ops training breaks you down, and re-molds you into something other than you are.
2. Looks like one thing on TV, another thing is real life. Have you ever been to San Diego? The sun beating down on you 9 months a year ALONE is enough to fry your brain.
3. Having a family when you go INTO the military is lunacy, if you have any desire to enjoy your tour.

You need to talk to a lot of people...start by going to the local VFW or American Legion, and find the youngest veterans you can, and ask them what they saw, what they thought, and what they think of your plan.

Best Regards,

STeven Garsson

1. so you HAVE been to San Diego?

2. Everyone wants the rebuilding part....the breaking down part is akin to the Cenobites in Hellraiser...I have close friends who have gone to the Island...none have made it through....it broke two of them, for a long, long time.

yes sir i have. i want to go. if i fail, then i have the honor of saying i failed at the SEALs. if i make it, then well it'll be something that alot of people cant claim. serving their country at a super high level

Hey, swing dancing is a blast. Just forget about embarassing yourself and do it anyway...

Making the SEAL teams is certainly a lofty and worthwhile goal. If you did not make the Teams (not that I have any reason to think that you wouldn't), would you still make the Navy a career?

Something else to consider, sometimes in life it is difficult to realize that sometimes you can make the greatest contribution by doing the things you are best at, not the things you want most to do.

Don't take either comment as
discouragement from your goals, I'm sure we all want our little brother from the forums to do well and be happy.
