Wish me luck - the ultimate outdoor event!

Please tell me the guy in the picture for obstacle #15 isn't wearing a Borat-style unitard-thingy. THAT is tough. Good luck, man!

Well boys - I made it back yesterday with only minor bumps and bruises. It was wicked hard but wicked fun!!!!! The very first hill was killer. It was probably only 300 yards or so but it was STEEP. Steep enough to where you had your hands on the ground in front of you to keep from falling backwards. The obstacles were a lot of fun. Mud crawls, tunnel crawls, ropes through water, swim (sucked...), wall climbs, countless hill climbs, snow crawl, fire run, running/walking through chest deep water and long runs.

My buddy twisted his ankle on a rock about 5 miles into it but he did his best to run the rest of the way. We all stayed together. Surprisingly there were only a couple of obstacles that had lines, the rest you were able to breeze right through. It took us one hour and 45 minutes. Knowing what we know now, there's no reason we probably couldn't shave and EASY 20 minutes off of that if there were no lines at obstacles.

My legs are pretty well spent today and I have my damn race # still on my forehead because they felt the need to write the # on you with a Sharpee.

There were a lot of military, LEO, and FFs there. If any of you guys are on the fence about doing this you should try it out. It really is a blast and is for a great cause. This one was the first one so there was some issues with parking and shuttling but they adjusted the start times to accomodate.

I'm thinking of doing the one in NJ that is 12 miles long which is in October. I've got to see what my schedule looks like though. Fun, fun times!!!! I'll post pics in a day or so.

Yup - I saw that! There was some random stuff there. There was a team of guys in kilts, a team of guys in 3 peice suits and countless dudes in speedos. One dude did it with an inner tube around his body the entire time. I heard there was a team of Marines with bricks in their rucks doing it but I didn't see them.

Oh - one more thing - attempting to rehydrate with beer doesn't work :) But it's a hell of a lot of fun!

Keep us updated! I wonder what the secret final obstacle is? Spinning blades? Crocodiles? A guy with a beanbag gun? Good luck!

IMO the harder it is the more personal satisfaction you get out of it. These adventure style races are great for building your self confidense and on the go problem solving skills, not to mention building your survival mentality. If your buddy twists his ankle 5 miles into a dayhike you can look back on Tough Mudder and say hey no biggie, I've dealt with this before in a much more physically and mentally stressful setting. Congrats, I'm hoping I can do the NorCal race next November.

You have no idea how excited I am having finished it and how great I feel after. It's done a lot for my self - confidence and the knowledge of my abilities and capabilities. The 12 mile one in November is going to be a BEAR for sure.

Good luck if you hit the NorCal one.
