It IS a little scary of a machine... That table hauls ass too, in fast feed mode. That wasn't the first time I'd ground with it, the first time I stood WAY back- picturing that big stone coming apart. In the vid that last shower of sparks was a bit dramatic! The wheel dove into the work idk, like 20 thou... Oh, so that's what that little thumb wheel on the grinding head does! Locks it down for a pucker free experience.
It definitely will get some tlc back in Washington, as there is a lot of industrial filth in its nooks and crannies and the electrical and coolant system need going through. I have not yet checked the table runout either- seems like not much, but a dial test indicator might tell a different tale.
As for belt conversion, I will run it for a while in my shop and see how the rock does. The machine will see more Damascus work than folder work, but a belt conversion might be in the cards. First thing I do when I get back though is use some of my accumulated wages to get my Index mill spindle sent out and reground to r8 from bs # 9 taper.
