Bruce to answer you question I do have more than one file. I'm just reluctant to use them. Still looking for the on/off switch. :D

Scott, Thanks for the Hickory!

That hawk looks much better with the groove than it did without the groove. Spectacular, my friend! Nice!

As to the hickory, you're more than welcome. It took you a while to get to using it. It looks great on a hawk.

Scott, I had the boards you gave me setting in the garage and had totally forgotten about them. That was two hawks ago now. Did you know the curl was in that one board? I didn't see the curl when I looked at it the first time. I find out some cabinet makers prefer not to work with it because it machines to hard.

I knew that I had a board with curl in it, but didn't know if you had chosen that one or not. If you remember, I had brought along about 5 boards for you to choose from at that show. I'm out of the large boards like that now. I used the last of what I had on my wifes butcher block for her Christmas Kitchen Cutlery. I still have about 75 handle size pieces, most of them 2"x2"x 6". I'm thinking about sending some of it out for dying and stabilizing.

I like the groove better Ray,That really turned out nice. I especially like the end cap on the handle.

Not to hijack the thread, buy I came home to a box from Richard Raymond yesterday evening. It had a hawk hear in it. I will get out in the shop today ( it should get to a balmy 28F by mid day), and make a haft.
Stacy

Nice hawk Ray, I think the groove is a plus and the texture is great. I bet we start seeing more of the butt plate style caps on knifes and hawks. Jim

Stacy, Glad to hear you got the head. That was one I did about 6 months after the fire. Not real sure why I never finished. I was just about to use some of the leather you sent and changed my mind. Now I wish I hadn't. Have fun with the hawk head!

The steel I used on this one is 1080. Here's a look at the next one.

Its the one on the bottom. I spent part of yesterday getting getting it forged. I'll take a picture of what it looks like now shortly. Both piece were once part of an old hand digging bar I picked up at a military surplus store. I had the steel checked out and I found out its 1050. Those toes do have socks and shoes on. The shoes aren't tied but there on. :D

Here's what it looks like now.

I still want to do some more forging on it. After I get that done then I'll drill out the eye.
