Having only bought or sold I am curious as to the normal protocol for trades. Mainly, are both knives in a trade sent out simultaneously, relying solely on a 'trust factor '? Not sure if this is the correct place for this question, but I'll give it a try. Thanks.

Generally true, but it depends on the feedback on the traders involved. Some traders require traders with little or no feedback to ship first.

I believe “lower feedback ships first” is the general rule of thumb - at least in my experience it is.

"ship first" means as soon as one party provides a tracking number, the other will ship? If this is due to a trust issue, a tracking number cannot guarantee the package contains what it is supposed to contain. Or does it mean one party will ship only when receiving and verifying the item from the other party?

In my early days on BladeForums, I did one trade with someone here who had higher feedback stats. We did not discuss the detail of who ships first but based on the USPS timestamps, I believe he shipped only when he received my item.
