Without thinking: The knife you reach for first

Like most collectors, I have a number of knives in several drawers, so whenever I am in a hurry or I need a good, reliable knife, I automatically put my hand in and pull out - the Buck Strider!

I guess that counts as a "reflex action blade!"

Normally, a person has a chestful of steel but often, he will just narrow his choices down to two or three.

What would your "first" blade, if you are in a hurry?

Whatever's in my pocket.

Which knife I decide to put in my pocket each day...that's usually not a quick, "without thinking" decision. Where I'm going, what time of night I'll be coming back, what I can expect to be doing with it, which one I "feel" like taking...that varies every day (sometimes more than once per day).

The two or three knives that I tend to carry a lot change every year or so. (I don't just carry Spydercos! :)). Lately though, it's the Spyderco Scorpius, Lil Temperance, or Chinook I. Those are the knives that I'm most likely to quickly plunk into my pocket as I'm heading out the door. They aren't necessarily my favorite knives, but I feel comfortable carrying them under any circumstance.

Lately it's been my BM-31 balisong. That's a great little EDC.
Indeed. I love mine (31s). That sucker rips open boxes like a zipper.

For around-town, it's a Benchmade Griptillian during the summer or my Greco Falcon during the winter. For the wilderness, it's my Cold Steel SRK, plus my current EDC. I'd like to expand the collection a bit, but finances would have to expand first. :D

With all of the Microtech knives I have obtained over the last year or so, I still seem to carry my Camillus Madd Maxx the most. I have used it a LOT! I am constantly having to cut open boxes and plastic bags/wrapping in the course of my day at work. Everything I use is wrapped in stuff to protect it till the assembly stage. It makes for a lot of cutting of packaging and breaking down boxes. The Maxx seems to excell at this and just gets pocketed without thinking, because of that, I guess.

My Spyderco Michael Walker Lt/wt.
I have some excellent handmades and customs that are in the rotation of my EDCs, but my #1 Go To knife is the Walker. I bought my first one at the first knife show I went to. It was the partially serrated version. I gave that knife away a few years ago and bought a plain edge to replace it. I'm really sorry Spyderco disscontinued this knife, after all this time it is still a favorite.

BM 910, unless I'm someplace extremely sensitive, in which case it's a small Schrade folder on my car keys. .

Eventho' I have a housefull of "better" knives, my old REKAT Hobbit Fang (with the handle wrapped with a strip of "Agrip") is the knife that sees 79.93% of my household "utility work", with my thin-bladed Victorinox Classic taking up the other 20.07%. While I'm "out of the house", my Benchmade 721s is my "utility-use knife".

It's got to be the Calypso Jr, the best cutter I have.
If I'm going to be outside it's the Paramilitary.

BM 940, my usual EDC, because it's light, not too big, but has a full-sized blade. The blade shape works for most cutting tasks and is easy to sharpen. The Axis lock is confidence-inspiring, it's a nice-looking design and well-executed. A great all-around knife.

Besides the edc folders I carry,
I'll grab the Perrin Bowie in a Sastre IWB if I'm heading out the door and think I need more than the two folders.
