This could be a short thread but I can't seem to locate what Nutnfancy is talking about when he refers to 'Wizard Of Oz Issues'. Maybe this is obvious and I'm reading into it too much. Can anybody explain?

He's referring to those whose Yellow Brick Road is composed of fool's gold.

Have you ever heard, "We're not in Kansas anymore, Dorothy." ?

^^^ Yep, those guys nailed it. In addition, when Nutn says "Volcano issues," he's referring to thumb studs that are shaped like a volcano and, thereby, don't allow you to get good purchase with your thumb on the studs. Took me a while to figure that one out, too. LOL!

Ok! Thank you all for the explanation. To be honest, I thought it was something to do with the pocket clip snagging something and the knife disappearing...not sure how that would relate to wizard of oz, so I'm glad I didn't use that phrase inappropriately. I understood the volcano issues thing, being a Sebbie owner myself, but thanks for the explanation for others who may not have been able to figure that one out, and for what it's worth, the volcano issue is a real issue indeed, especially if your Sebenza isn't worked in yet!

Is a "volcano" thumb stud the same as what I call a "beehive"? Not my favorite.

I'm as surprised as you, but apparently he still has quite the following. Still, "Wizard of Oz" brings to mind the man behind the curtain.

Which could lead one to believe maybe "wizard of oz issues" relate to the appearance of the blade when "hidden behind the curtain", or in the closed position, being an issue, a la CS Ultimate Hunter:

I had never heard of "volcano issues" before, but I get it. The pointy thumb stud on the Sebbie is the only reason I didn't get one after handling it in a store. It just wasn't comfortable for me. Otherwise an awesome knife and worthy of its stellar rep.

I agree that Cold Steel has good thumb stud design; at least it does on my American Lawman. Very ergonomic.

As for nutnfancy, he's kind of goofy but good for a laugh sometimes. I suppose people find his shtick entertaining; I usually steer clear.

I had a bit of an issue with my seb when I first got it, for whatever reason the lockup was a bit tight, probably a spring tension issue with the lock bar, and it made it almost impossible to open one handed. Fortunately a trip to CRK fixed that problem and now I have no problem with the thumb stud. To their credit, it is very minimalistic so it never gets in the way and it looks very understated and classic just like the knife. It's a small sacrifice once the knife is properly worked in--no issue at all 98% of the time. But yah, cold steels thumb studs are utilitarian to the max, grippy in any and virtually impossible to slip off!

People still watch that bozo?

Yep. And lots, too. Check his numbers. I find him to be kinda nerdy, but he provides good info and is entertaining. Better than what's on TV, for sure.

Yep, same thing - doesn't work as well as a barrel-shaped stud.

Yes when we have an hour to kill

Exactly. Again, better than what's on the TV.
