Just FYI.

Awhile back my wife and I purchased some perfume from this internet vendor: http://www.fragrancenet.com/f/net/?mv_pc=ypr0DEYiMXQ-*O2pPk2WPH*qEUXNnQsJ6A

Soon afterwards, we found that there was an inexplicable $10 withdrawl from our bank account by a company called WLI Reservations. It is a scam - as I found out after doing a little homework: http://www.ripoffreport.com/reports/ripoff119840.htm

The really odd part is that we used a credit card to make the internet purchase (one with fraud protection), yet the money they withdrew came directly from our bank account...

I canceled with them today & am on my way to the bank right now. However, I figured I would warn any of you contemplating a purchase from this vendor. Obviously they are somehow involved in the scam.

Ho, ho, ho...

Whats this about passing on CC info without persmission ?
That is ridiculous......:grumpy:

That's alarming. How did they convince your bank to give them your money? Talk to your bank about that....

Okay folks - :foot: - part of this was my mistake; thought we used the VISA card but instead must've used the VISA debit card (!). Big mistake that. I had to cancel the debit card today to make sure it stops...

Additionally, come to find out that the vendor may not be directly responsible for this - apparently the company that provides the allegedly "secure" checkout services are the very one's involved in the scam!!!

They either scam you directly by selling your info or sometimes give you an option to 'click here' for a $10 refund - but its a bait & switch - instead of a refund, they give your bloody information to this WLI company... What a bunch of bastards!!!

The worst part about it is that this scam is not limited to the above vendor at all - not by a long shot. So beware the allegedly secure check out cart - it might not be secure at all.

Consumers that shop online need to read web site Privacy Statements more than they do. It tells a great deal about how a particular company handles your information.

For example, I just read fragrancenet.com's Privacy Statement. Man, that was a scary read ! They don't display a Safe Harbor statement or OPA seal. To top it off. . . .they also operate a "Opt-Out" policy. :barf: Talk about meeting the "three strikes and your out criteria !"

If you haven't made contact with fragrancenet.com. . . .do so immediately.

FragranceNet.com, Inc.

Here is their Customer Service Dept. . . . .1-800-727-3867, but don't talk to one of the operators. Tell the customer service rep that you want to talk to the VP of Sales and or Marketing. . . NOW ! :D

What it sounds like. . . WLI charged you for a "Reservation Rewards Membership." To find out. . . .contact WLI. Here's their info. . . .1-800-732-7031 (ET Monday - Friday 8:00 am to 11:00 pm, Saturday 9:00 am to 6:00 pm and Sunday 9:00 am to 5:00 pm) or email them at customerservice@reservationrewards.com

If you honestly believe that there is a "bait and switch" being employed, which is illegal. . . .the FTC and FBI are other contact options.

Excellent - thanks Gig - I just filed a claim with my bank & they are all over it. However, I will call the vendor now & see what they have to say for themselves... Thanks again!

Called them - DO NOT BUY ANYTHING FROM THAT COMPANY (FRAGRANCENET.COM) - and tell a friend. Post it everywhere you can & spread the word! - They claim to not be able to connect me with a supervisor, they claim that we "registered" for this BS rewards thing & it is obviously a bait & switch because we did no such thing. The FTC will be my next call.

...Complaints filed with the FTC against both companies.

I really think that check cards are one of the most dangerous pieces of plastic out there. When money is pulled through one of those things it's gone, it's not like a credit card where you can contest the charges. The bank may eventually refund your money... but it will be on their time frame not yours...

If the bank card is used as a credit card and has either the Mastercard or Visa logo's on it, it has exactly the same protections as a Credit Card. I only have a Debit card with MC logo and I use it for everything, online and offline. You can contest the charges just as you would a regular Credit Card

If you have a bank card that you use with a PIN number I'd stop, you have very little protection.

I'll stick to a credit card, if there's a problem then the problem arrives in an envelope in the mail which you can choose what to do with it.

With a debit card the money is gone _then_ you have figure out how to get it back.
