Wobbly chuck

Does a wobbly drill bit mean I need a new chuck or a new drill press. I'm looking to get a new 16 speed anyway, I just didn't know if I could salvage this one or not.

Does every bit wobble or just one?You could bring the quill down some and then grad hold to it and see if there is any play in the bearings.If this is tight then remove the chuch and try reseating it.That may help.

I definitely have a few bad bits, but there seems to be no play in the chuck and even my 3/16" end mill has probably 1/128" play in it.

You could use a dial indicator and magnetic base to see if it is the chuck. If it is I would also try reseating it or replacing the bearings and checking it again.

Most seem to think it's the chuck. I'll put the chuck from the new press on it and see if it makes a difference.
