Wolf in Ohio?

I would take this very seriously. I've seen what I think may be wolves in Ca and ID kept as pets (not "hybrids" , which is a misnomer, anyway), pretty sure.
Coyotes are dangerous, too. And feral dogs, which you alluded to.

Dangerous animals is everywhere, is my point.

Evry coyote I have ever seen was pretty scrawny , mind you I would rather not run into one or more whilest biking/etc but they always looked pretty owntrodden as opposed to the one wolf I've seen in the wild and the others I've seen in pics and on TV.

Is that the same where you folks are ?

I'm assuming maybe the coyotes around here ( which there are a lot of ) dont have an over abundance of food , hence they are slim.

We also have grey and red foxes , which are quite a rare treat to see considering the idgits that run Fresno have built upon much of the fox habitat here.

West coast Coyotes are pure, around 35 pounds I believe. Towards the East they are Hybrids, mating with wolves, They get up to 80 pounds or more.

tgt3, please read the NYS DEC website !!! Their DNA study has shown that coyote/dog and coyote/wolf crosses are extremely rare !!! It is common in nature for animals to be larger the further north you go, suface to volume ratio is better for larger animals so better for cold climates .Also food supplies if better produce larger animals. So the 70 lb NE coyote is not unusual and it's just a big coyote , nothing else.

We have open season on them in NH. My cat got killed by one in 1999 I presume. After talking to the animal control officer, my buddy wanted to kill some of them and hang their mutilated corpses on trees up in the woods as a message to the rest of them. I declined his offer because I thought it might be a little harsh. The coyote are just trying to survive. In hindsight, maybe we should have killed them all. They are varmints anyway. He wanted to disembowel them and let the guts hang from their carcasses. He somehow believed the other animals would take this as a message not to screw around with the animals in my neighborhood. I think I will try out a Fisk OVB Bowie on them If I get the chance.

uhhh ok.... I like coyotes I'v seen lots of em some big ones here in the NE some smaller ones south and in the west I've com pretty close to them and have never felt in danger or threatened they are predators however and should be treated with the same respect as everyother predatory animal....

Yeah, I agree. Be very careful, we"re hunting coyotes. I still miss my cat Fatty, he was a good cat. To think that I had a chance to slaughter the piece of shit animal that probably killed him, leaves a bad taste in my mouth. Sometimes blood is the only thing that can even the score. My buddy understood that then, in retrospect it seems to be thing I should have done.

The past is gone brother we've all lost thngs we've cared about in life might be time to let it go....the coyote is a slave to instinct likeother predators if they see a smaller animal it's a potential meal.... I'm sorry for your loss..but the coyotes are just doing there thing.... if you had a pet deer walking around through the woods a person miht have done the same thing.

What you wrote is almost verbatum for what I told my pal back in 1999. I have let it go, but the post just got me going again. I just had to put the cats brother, Peep, down three weeks ago. I had him over 15 years. He was a little rascal. I guess a new cat or dog is the way to go. I went to the Humane Society a few times but none of the cats were as nice looking as the cats we had. They looked like the gray Tabby on one of the cat food bags.

I had a geat cat for many years watched him pull a rising grouse out of the air once...used to follow me fishing everyday when I was young got into a scrap with a nasty raccoon and came out paralized fron the shoulders down...had to put em down too....unfortunate.

Wolf, coyote, hybrid, feral pet, or whatever was seen up in Ohio, I'd be carrying a .38 Spl. or larger sidearm on my woods walks, especially if I wanted to protect my son. I was once threatened by a small pack of stray or feral dogs at a dump site way back when we hauled our own garbage and trash. They approached me and were growling, so I dusted them off with some ordinary .22 LR birdshot loads I had in the old H&R revolver that I carried mostly to shoot deserving snakes with. Hostilities immediately ceased, but I wouldn't want to bet on that medicine for bigger or more determined critters.
