I've heard of this show but thats about it. Anyone ever been to it or done the show? Its the weekend of the 23 of April this year. I'm looking at this show thinking it would be a good way to spend some time with my friend Gil who is the fellow I located last week. He's the one I served with while in Nam. I'm mainly wondering if this show would be worth my time and the expense to do.

Ray If I could talk you into going I would. I plan to be there. I dont have anything to compare it to so I am not sure if I could say its a good show or not. From what I have been told it is starting to fade. If you would like I could give you a list of the makers I saw there last spring. I would bet that it would not be a sell out show for you. But if you do go I may have to buy a knife from you.:)

William, For me selling out at a show I would consider a pipe dream. It just don't happen for me. If I can just pay for the expenses of doing the show with a few knife sales I normally won't ask for more than that. The fading out of knife shows is real common for the most part. I would like to contact someone that has done the show and hear what they have to say. Thanks!

Raymond,
I have been doing that show for 15 years or so, I missed one or 2 along the way, but I have a good idea how things go there. Give me a call later 2312384705 and we'll talk about it.
Thanks,
Del

Raymond....without knowing what you want to compare it to, hard to answer your question. I've been to the show the last couple years and all I can say is that last year I heard a lot of grumbling about how sales were way down.
Do you hear much about the Detroit area economy out there??
Myself, I would say it's not worth the plane fare...on the other hand, to spend time with a Nam buddy....priceless.

I did 3 shows here in the northwest this year. All 3 of the shows sales were also down. Del Ealy gave me a call a few hours ago and what he told me about this show was pretty much as I expected. Spending some time with my buddy from Nam is priceless. I gave Gil a call and told him my plan and he was all for it. I'm thinking this will be a go!

Ray I haven't cleared it with the queen yet, but I'm going to make a commitment to be there too. I'm not sure how much of a drive it'll be but I'm up for it. No problem. The big thing for me would be making enough knives to put on a table! I've never had more than one unsold knife at a time, ever. Because I work so dang slow. Guess I'll have to get crackin. Let's hope missy doesn't throw a big freakin fit! ;)

Wolverine Knife Collector's Club; there's a link to the show page in the left navigation. Non-member table is $140 for both days. Rooms are relatively cheap, about $75. Not sure which hotel would be preferred, perhaps one of you guys could suggest the best choice. I might be able to talk my collector buddy into going and sharing the room and gas expense too, which would make it easier.

Y'all are really cheering me up. I usually hang out with Wayne Whittaker at this and the badger show, we have similar tastes and get along well together. I would love to see a few new faces there. Ray, I know you are going to see your 'nam buddy, but I would like to extend a dinner invite to you. Dave, you are welcome as well.
It would be great to hang out with a few forumites from further west.
Let me know,
thanks,
Del

Dave,
Its $95 for sat and sun or $45 just for sunday, I know that isn't how its listed, but thats what the fees are.

Del, Whats for dinner? Heck we can make this a gathering and some good times to be had. I'd better make sure I get a table and not forget........

Dave, Good luck with the Queen!

Wow I am excited too! It will be cool to get to meet you guys. I have been trying to get out some instead of just hiding in my shop. I had a good time at this show last time I went with Del. It looks like it may be even better this time;) I hope I see you guys there!

Ray it is truly great that you will be able to meet up with your buddy. I would think that would make it worth it. Who knows you may even sell a knife or two.

Guys,
There are some good resturants including red lobster, and half a dozen others within a mile or two of the show, and I'll be there friday and saturday nights. One of the things I decided long ago is that I'll eat well for dinner if at no other time, when I am at shows, even if I don't do very well at the show. I usually go for fast food on the way to the show, but I try not to eat that way for dinner at the shows. I'm not adverse to a drink at the hotel bar as long as I'm not driving.
Del
Will,
You are welcome as well, I kinda figured you would be rinding down with me.

I'm pretty excited about this show! Expectations of a good time, meeting and making new friends, and getting reconnected with Gil. This will be fun!

I'm getting pretty psyched about this show. It'll be great to meet so many forum buddies that I've never put a face to or shaken their hand. Not to mention oggling all your knives! :D I hope I can get a couple put together by then too.

Del, thanks for the table and eatery info.

I'll be there, too. No table, but I do want to meet all you guys. Del is the only one I've ever spoken to face-to-face.

Hey, I do remember now! I just hadn't put it together with the Bladeforums name. :foot:
Well then, I'm looking forward to seeing you again.

(You know, now that I think about it, I met Karl B Anderson, too. So that makes at least three. :))
