Women of Busse Chop-off!

Any of the girls that want to practice, just head over to my place. There are lots of trees to test your skillz. Plus I could use the help splitting wood for the cold weather coming.

we could do it after the show during the other contest time, you know longest ASH and what not, we can bring the wood and everything else set it up in the parking lot, I am sure it will be fine :)

I'd have to agree with ya. I bet Lora would be the victor :D

Only time will tell Bryan, only time will tell. But thanks for the vote of confidence!:)

Ummm...I don't know if you could call having us chop all of your firewood for you practice. I think that would be more along the lines of pawning your work off on someone else lol :)

That doesn't sound fun. :(

Definitely sounds like no fun at all =P It is faaaar to cold out now!

Tenatious? Definatly. Strong? Not so much.

I'd take an ounce of tenacity over a pound of strength in any competition, especially in a fighting or chopping competition. Go all whirlwind crazy like the Tazmanian Devil :)

Nice! I'm too new/never been so I can't really suggest any specifics, just threw the general idea out there in the hopes it would catch on. Money talks, I betcha we could rent a section of the/a parking lot. This is my only life long dream that I can attain now, other than being a father, and money isn't too much of an object as long as we're not talking $5k plus. But here we go again with my lack of experience, I have no idea how much someone would want for parking lot rental or how much we'd need. Then there's wood and other choppables, protective gear, etc.

Now the *real* question, I'm thinking is, are the girls gonna let me play too if it really does happen?

It's not all strength. You can also be smarter than the wood. So yeah, I usually go with strength... Seriously though, I am a horrible arm wrestler, which is supposed to be the 'do all, show all, test of might' and I'm not particularly great at any other feat of strength, but I'll be damned if I'm not going to give it all when it matters, especially contest time. I chipped a tooth in a pie eating contest my senior year in high school, I realized I was behind and had to step it up. Yep, slammed my face so hard into the pie I went through it and hit the table... and I ended up aaaaalmost winning

That's just motivation to keep moving and chopping  And for those cutting up fire wood, here's a little helpful video :D And you're welcome ;)

nice, gotta get me a wedge shaped axe, link? I wouldn't think the name for that type of axe would be something as simple as 'wedge axe', would it?. Talk about outsmarting the wood... looked like a tire chain, maybe modified, that he wrapped around it? He did it so fast, it was almost with contempt, like he has to do it, a lot lol

Splitting Axe or Splitting Maul (Heavier and has a sledge hammer head for use with a splitting wedge). For quality, check out Gransfors Bruks or S.A. Wetterlings (Less than Gransfors). Looked like a swing-set chain and short thick rubber bungee cord so it will fit a variety of logs. I'm guessing the logs being frozen really help with ease of splitting. And as always, buy a LONGER handle so if you're splitting wood and miss, you don't drive it into your shin. It's been done before  *cringe*

Aye, thanks for the info. I was just reading a story about a 16 year old boy who missed while he was chopping wood, cut his leg (it wasn't specific where) and bled out :( My Grandpa's sister cut one of her toes off shoveling barefoot, tools can be dangerous, even the less obvious ones. I used to split firewood for my mom when I was a teenager and I remember a couple of close calls with the axe/hatchet, I even had this odd wedge called the "wood grenade" that popped out a couple of times and hit me, in the face too at least once.

I was just thinking about chopping at frozen wood with say, a KZII or 1311. I know they can take it, but it's got to be much harder on the edge than non-frozen wood, right?

No problem on the info :) As for frozen chopping, I'm green in that area. Haven't had much experience so I'm sure some of the Frozen Chosen Hogs will be able to answer that. Just googled the wood grenade and that's pretty cool minus the coming back at you part

Seriously?! Why haven't I thought of this? This is incredible, I've spent so much time splitting wood. It would have been nice to have this so long ago!!

Haha. Yeah, when I showed this video to the guys at the knife shop I worked at, one guy started swearing :D He jokingly said he hated that guy because it was ingenious and he wish he thought of it as well.
