If your parents buy it for you, and you don't take it to school or wave it around on the street like some wannabe thug, I don't see a problem. If you get involved with the local Scout troop, that'll give you a more legitimate reason to carry a knife. As for a criminal record, if there is no criminal intent but the knife is considered prohibited, it will be confiscated and you may be placed on probation, but Youthful Offender status will seal the conviction. An assisted opener may tempt you to "show it off" to your friends, but word will soon spread, and authority figures will intervene. Showing off is immature. If you are immature, you have no business carrying any sort of knife.
