Has anyone had any dealings with an Ames Portable Hardness Tester?
If so, please tell me all pros, cons and price if you would.
Thanks, Jerry

I have one and like it. They can be found used on e-bay from time to time. Mine was 235 delivered. The new price is over 2000. You do not want the model with "S" at the end. Make sure the diamond penetrator is with it, these are over 400 each.

I can't give a fair comparison as this is the only tester I have used.

I have one also. It reads very close to the hardness on the calibrated discs that came with it. It takes up no space. I lock the handle in a vise when I use it, then put ti in it's box when done. Readings seem to correlate well with the " file tests" on the blades.

I have 3 hand testers that I picked up from my previous employeer. I think they do B scale. Never had them out yet. They get you very close to where you are at for hardness. You can make or buy a bench mount kit for them also.
