I'll change the status as they get shipped and received. Blue means shipped, Green means received.
Instructions to KITH members:
1) Pack your knife securely. It is best to put the knife in the sheath or case, with a secure protection over the point and edge, and then strap that to a piece of heavy cardboard that won't slide around in the box. Pad the inside of the box well. I prefer using bubble wrap. Using a good size box usually makes the item getting lost less likely. Again, pad the inside with plenty of crumpled paper or bubble wrap.
Be sure to have a clearly readable return address on the box. Putting clear shipping tape over the addresses is wise, as boxes may get wet in shipping and ink runs and can't be read.
Put a sheet of paper with your return address and recipient's address inside the box before sealing it up ... just in case the box gets damaged in shipping, and they can't read the address. I often pack the knife in a smaller box and label that box just like I was going to ship it. Then I put that box in a larger box and label it again. This way, if the box gets damaged in shipping and the address is unreadable, they have a fully addressed box to continue the shipment with.
Put in a note to your recipient with info on the knife and anything else you want to pass on. Be sure to give your phone number and email to the recipient so he can contact you to thank you and discuss the knife.
2) If in doubt about the address or any shipping rules, contact your recipient and double check that the address you have on the label is correct.
3) Fill out all paperwork at the postal facility. Mark the knife as a kitchen/hunting/utility cutting tool and mark it as a gift.
4) Take it to the post office or your preferred shipper and ship it with tracking. Insurance is a good idea, too.
I like to use Flat-Rate boxes. They are sturdy boxes and come with insurance included in the shipping cost. They seem to get handled better in transit because they are tracked continually. Different countries may have their version of these.
5) IMPORTANT - Send me an email as soon as you get it shipped. Send me the tracking number and the exact address you put on the box. This helps in keeping track of the knives.
6) When your KITH knife arrives from whoever was your sender, post a photo or three in this "Woo-Hoo, My KITH Knife Arrived" thread. Also send me an email that the knife arrived and any info you want to pass on to me.
NOTES:
Be aware that VAT taxes or customs/duty taxes may be added by some countries that the recipient has to pay in order to get the knife from the post office. These are paid by the recipient, not the sender. This is why you should list the value at a reasonable level, or Customs will just pick a number they like. I usually list the knife at $100 value.
Before packing, take clear photos of the knife along with the recipient's name and address in the photo. These may be invaluable in the slim chance of an insurance claim.
