Please go here for a repost of this thread with price drops: http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/s...-Sycamore-Ironwood-Buckeye-burl-spalted-maple. Closing this thread.

I've been hoarding more wood than I will probably ever get the chance to have made into knife handles, so time to purge some of them. I took multiple photos of each block to show the relevant views, and in some cases to show them under different lighting since colors and grain are sort of hard to capture with some of these. Prices for all of these are shipped to you within the US. No trades please.

A. California Sycamore snakeskin burl and spalted, stabilized
Bought from Mark at Burlsource a couple of years ago. Really cool and unique piece. Stabilized. Measures 9-5/8" x 2-1/8" x 1-1/8". The first set of photos show the two face sides, the second set of photos show the two "spine" sides. $80.

B. Curly Koa, not stabilized
Bought this from an eBay seller a little more than a year ago. It came with a coating of shellac or varnish or something like that. I think the seller put it on to show how it'd look once oiled and finished. I didn't bother to sand off the coating. Measures 9-1/2" x 1-15/16" x 1-7/8". Dry natural block, unstabilized. The photos show all four sides. $80.

C. Curly Koa, small, not stabilized
Bought from another eBay seller. Measures 5" x 1-1/2" x 1". I wetted the block with some rubbing alcohol before taking the pictures to show the grain. It's a dry, natural block, unstabilized. $30.

D. Ironwood burl
Bought this at a knife show some years ago. Measures 5-1/16" x 1-1/2" x 1-1/16". Photos show the two faces of the block. Since ironwood doesn't need to be stabilized, it's natural. $45..

E. Buckey burl, stabilized
Bought at a knife show some years ago. Measures 4-15/16" x 1-11/16" x 1-1/16". Stabilized, but there are some checks and voids at least on the surface, I don't know how deep they go. The dark black spots are them. first set of photos show the faces, second set of photos show the spines. $30.

F. Maple burl, stabilized
Bought at a knife show some years ago. Measures 5-1/8" x 1-1/2" x 1". Stabilized. First set of photos show the faces, second set of photos show the spines. Sold.

G. Box of 13 pieces of spalted maple, unstabilized.
I'm selling this as a group, please don't ask for them to be split. I bought these from an eBay seller about 9 years ago. It was one big blank that I roughly cut down with a hand saw then a band saw. I lived in an apartment then and had to go to a friend's house to do the cutting so I didn't pay attention to making them straight smooth cuts or any dimension, just as long as they became easier to manage. The blank was green cut back then. All the pieces have been drying for 9 years indoors so they're dry.

They're natural and unstabilized, not at all suitable for knife handles in this state because much of the spalted areas are way too soft. You'll have to get them professionally stabilized to be used.

I photographed them as is without wetting them. I also only roughly measured them because they're all rough cut without squared sides. Hopefully my hand being in the photos will help give you a sense of the sizes. I took 2 photos of each piece, between the two photos each the major sides of the pieces can be seen.

$35 for all these unstabilized maple pieces.
