I also use a similar knife to cut leather. I made this one from 1095 because ( and I often get myself in trouble when I express this) IMHO it slices better than some steels and the edge can be kept keen using a leather strop with a bit of buffing compound; most wood carvers keep one close to their work
1095 steel heat treated to Rc 58-60 with attention to a fine grain structure
Flat grind, polished so that it sings as it slices through the wood
Stabilized and dyed curly maple handle. The curve of the handle fits nicely into the palm of the hand.
Overall length: 7 1/4 inches
Blade: 2 3/4 inches
